Flick Your Ashes on Hitler's Hearth.

Now that I got your attention, does anyone know anything about this ashtray? It appears to be a souvenir ashtray with an authentic marble piece taken from Hitlers home at Berchtesgaden after V-E Day, June 1945. I found this in the trash. It is in very good condition. I love searching the dumps.
Does anyone recognize the 3 names signed in testimony of the authenticity of this piece? Any guesstimate of value? I hope you can read it.

Re: Flick Your Ashes on Hitler's Hearth.

A) I'm not a big fan of the memorabilia of the Hitlers reign
B) I'm sorry but the white imprint is to clear and bright, looks like a cut and paste of the text.
Can you explain?

Mfg sounds like it may have been of British origin...signatures may be officers or...

The marble in your ashtray has nice multiple colors. Better than the one on the site you found.

Re: Flick Your Ashes on Hitler's Hearth.

This website has them for sale at $499. Pretty interesting. You could sell at that price and get yourself another nice detector. No bad for a little dumpster diving.

Crap! I need to start going in the trash and taking such items, instead of just the edible stuff.

If it was memorabilia of his reign, I would agree. I see this as a war trophy, a celebration of his defeat, hard earned by those who captured the trophy and all those who served and contributed to his defeat.

Here let me try to explain this for you. He found a plain ashtray that looked like a fireplace. He then spent some time looking for one that resembled his. He came upon this Hitler piece and wanted to make a copy of it. So with great talent he carved out the front with the exact words as the one he found on the net. This process took many hours to complete, so instead of trying to copy the wording on the back. ( like the one he found on the web). He said the hell with it and just did a little cut and paste and photo shopped it into the pic. Shame on you BigC, if you just would have completed this great forgery no one would have figured it out. You should be ashamed. ;D

Congrats on a great find. Are you planning on selling it? If so, I might know a couple collectors who might be interested.

Re: Flick Your Ashes on Hitler's Hearth.

This is from pjroo's link:

AH Berghof Marble Fireplace Ashtray

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These are examples of the famous "Weatherhead" Souvenir ashtrays, made by an enterprising technical representative sent to the Obersalzberg during the occupation period in June 1945. Many of the surface and subsurface souvenirs had been removed by the 506th PIR and 101 Airborne, however, Weatherhead was able to get a piece of the marble from the hearth of the fireplace and had a number of ashtrays mounted with a chip of the marble made in 1946. The back of the ashtray had a "certificate of authenticity" and copyright date of 1946 by Weatherhead. There are three facsimile (printed signatures of the witnesses as part of the statement. The statement from a very nicely preserved example is shown below:

I wonder how many were produced? Mine does not seem to have the Copyright 1946 stamp.

Re: Flick Your Ashes on Hitler's Hearth.

I love this post! I totally agree that it's a nice trophy of the defeat of Hitler and fascism, unlike some other Nazi memoribilia that seems to glorify the Nazi movement. Anyway, it was found and not bought at some Nazi flea market. An interesting piece of history, congrats!

The weatherheads Albert J. W. III is still alive own (still) a plastics and (then)celluloid company in Chicago. They are huge philanthopists.

Bock was a memeber of the ABomb testing and was a scientist.

No idea on the other man.

I love anything WWII, German, or American.Hitler is as much a part of history as anything else.....Compared to what we see in the future, he "might not seem as scary"...

Wow, stop hating. :icon_scratch: Great find!

A). What a dumb thing to say about something someone found and has questions about. Thats just plain rude. Its obviously in this forum because he wants to know about it, he's not flaunting it.

B). That is as close to accusing someone of forgery as you can get, which is not allowed on this website.
