And as the old joke goes, my arms are still tired.

The flight was delayed, so I was only able to dig a few hours, but it was nice.

IMG_0192.JPG First up is a side plate to an 18th century pistol or musket, a sea serpent. I did not dig this, I dug a 1711 1 reale cob and traded it on the spot (I have some other cobs, no serpents.) It was really cool seeing it come out of the ground. IMG_0191.JPG Did get a 2nd coin 1770 1 reale, IMG_0198.JPGIMG_0197.JPGIMG_0196.JPGIMG_0199.JPGIMG_0195.JPG

Flat button, tacks to chest or furniture, CW percussion cap, misc, CW .22 shell, something hard to get, metropolitan slipware, bellarmine pieces, nice stuff! All the pottery is 18th century or earlier.

Awesome Smokey!!! Do you happen to have a pic of the gun that serpent came from? (gun/type?)

Congrats Smokey!! as always great stuff to look at. Glad you got back in one piece after all the plane drama. Did you happen to snap a pic of the cob before you traded it?

Good job with limited time. Cool finds.

Congratualtions on the short excellent relics and coin hunt! :occasion14:

Darryl, no I don't have a pic of it. As you know from first hand experience I don't carry my cell phone in the field with me. And I just got a new camera (missing too many birdie pics these days), and it just got its first charge tonight.

Lairmo, it was probably a civilian pattern flintlock, mid 18th century, I don't have a picture but have seen some similar items on this website.

Truth1253, thanks. Almost all of my Spanish silvers found personally have decent detail on them. The reason for that (I would assume), is that the sites date within 10-30 years of the dates on the coins. They hadn't worn smooth like so many of the 18th century coins found on mid 19th Century sites. My sites, for the most part, were abandoned fairly early and the coins had been lost early in their "life". I LOVE the oldest spots.

Now, my 14th century German coin (if that is what is truly is), was worn and smashed beyond redemption, but it had been around 300 years before it was lost, so that doesn't count.

the serpent is very cool, I can see if one has plenty of something, making a trade like that. I totally understand the smaller circles, I stay closer to the truck now because of my walking inability LOL

I don't have walking ability, I have limping ability and the detector and long handled digger make GREAT canes from time to time.
