It's not a napkin ring. It's the wrong shape, and it's weight tells you that it would be an ordeal to balance a rolled napkin so the design remained face up. I agree it is almost certainly a collar slide.

I agree it's most likely a scarf slide, but I'm not against other options.

Also, I realize this is not a fleur de lis, however - I offer these examples as to why I considered it could have been a napkin ring which come in many weights and sizes.

Thanks for posting the pic snaps :icon_thumright: That is a very nice patina

I agree it could be either scarf slide or napkin ring.

Great pic. YES the Macro helps lol. It looks like green enamel to me. :dontknow: I can see it chipping off. I would think patina would be on both sides and not chip off.

I think you guys are right that it is indeed enamel. Notice there's no green in the grooves. I'm thinking napkin ring.

I also see a green check :D

wow, you guys really have me thinking about this patina now-if it is paint then my sincere appolagies-everyone I showed it to thought it was patina, and I never dug anything old that had paint the color of brass patina- you get alot of stuff painted black- I geuss to tone down the brass "look at me" effect. Ya just never know-but thats the great part of this hobby that keeps you going.

Thanks everyone, Snaps

It is unusual to have a patina colored paint. Maybe it has been "antiqued?"

Your camera takes a great close up pic. What kind is it?

There are many enamelled examples of napkin rings and also with this pretty green color.

It's quite possible a match to this napkin ring design can be found on web. I'm going with napkin ring rather than scarf slide due to the enamel. It's a nice vintage piece snaps :icon_thumright:

Jim, after seeing the examples you posted, I see how napkin ring might fit. I still go with collar slide due to the rivet and probability it was for something hanging straight down beneath it (rather than off to the side). Could be either I guess.

I use an old Sony Mavica MVC-FD85 with a floppy disc. The larger cased old cameras take better close-ups. Something to do with the distance from something to the lens is larger. Mine is only 1.3 MP but it takes great closeups if I want to use the floppy disc space. I installed a floppy drive on my computer special for this camera.
