A friend from work and I decided to detect and area that will be underwater one day because of a man made lake and our plan was to meet up Sunday at 11am and hike into the area. Once we got there the sky turned black and hail started falling from the sky. Since it was a chance for scattered thunderstorms we waited it out. Two hours later we headed out. The area has many old barns, foundations, and homes. Found many nails, scrap metal and other things and what we couldn't haul off to throw away we stacked it next to the pile of tin and other large metal objects so we don't have to find it again on the next outing. Besides the ticks, me almost stepping on a snake and my friend actually stepping on a snake we had fun. My friend never really detected before and the horseshoe he found made him so excited that he made me think of myself when I found my first merc. Walking on we found a large dump site that had old bottles, appliances, and a old metal bed. I kept a Coke and a Pepsi bottle and a one gallon clear glass jug that we think had bleach in it at one time. There were Schlitz cans and other glass bottles that were just labeled Liquor. Here is what I cleaned up and the other stuff I found were nails and scrap metal.
The first two pictures this item is made of copper and I have it standing on a water hose connector. The way the end is curved out it makes me think of a mouth piece to a horn but not sure. The next one looks like a gear or a crank handle. Then I found this old watch. One side is corroded and I am guessing that it is the face side. I am wondering if I should open the back side of the watch. Looks shiney on some spots like silver but I doubt it. The next one puzzles me. It is iron, and flat underneath. The top piece has the star on it and the little piece that comes off the edge is odd as well. Gonna post it in the what is it thread. Any idea?
