Fisher pro pointer

no one?
looks like it might be a rebranded knock off, I have seen them as low as 45.00
I don't use anything now, hand full of dirt in front of the coil. Has always worked for me but want to see what the hubaloo is about...

The Fisher F point works OK, it has a depth of about an inch on a coin size target. The Garrett is a little deeper , more durable feel.

I like my F-Point. I use a Sunray mostly but the F-Point works well enough for pinpointing. You want 1" to 1-1/2" sesitivity (IMHO) for coins and it does that. Waterproof and the 9v lasts well. I did have to futz with the cap to get the battery to stay.

Had one, it works... When you compare it to a Garrett is just another world....

well that settles that, thanks guys

buy a white's if there any problem bring it back and they hand you a new one
like to see all the first Texas instruments spin off do that
and you all know what I mean

I have one, but I prefer my modded Harbor Freight Cen-Tech pinpointer. It gets better depth than the F-pointer does, and detects along the side of the wand as well.

...liftloop.... were do you get that all detector companies are spin offs of First Texas ?? Some one gave you some wrong info.......

You guys with your toy pinpointers slay me with depths of maybe one an ahalf inches. Why not get the Sunray inline pointer as it has a range of about 6", runs off detector's batteries, and you can't leave it behind. It is like a 1" coil for use in Very trashy places as you can use it like a full sized coil. Its water proof too. :icon_thumleft:

It doesn't work with all machines does it?

They make them for specific brands and specific models: Fisher, Garrett, Minelab and Whites I believe. New Page 1 The manufacturer has to share certain information and, likely, patents so Sunray can only work with those that allow it. Best part is you use the headphones and machine's digital display. No second runner ups to a Sunray.

Here is mine clipped to the upper shaft of my F-75. The small box on the shaft ahead of the handle/display head switches from primary coil to pinpointer. The Sunray is a 1" coil on a handle.

I have the fisher which is o.k., but my brother's garret is much more sensitive. This looks like a fairly easy modification that I might try for more sensitivity.

I have nothing against the sunray per se. But last time I checked they didn't have a model available for Tesoro machines (which I have). And you also can't move it between machines if you happened to have multiple brands in your arsenal. Still, for some people it fits the bill very nicely.

Having more than 2" on your pinpointer somewhat defeats the purpose of having a pinpointer in the first place. Is it really pinpointing if it can't get you closer than 6" away. At that point, it really is just "metal detecting" instead of pinpointing.

I would also claim (and this is more of a general comment) that any product that doesn't beep faster as you get closer to the target is not a "pinpointer". It is a "metal detector". And I already have one of those that I can use to pinpoint with rather well. It's when I need to get in close and personal that I want a true pinpointer to guide me right to the target with little effort. Because of this I don't waste my time with things like the Fisher or Centech. It's not that you can't use those devices to pinpoint. You can (just like I can use my regular detector to pinpoint). But it is less than ideal. Until you've used a pinpointer that beeps faster as you get closer to the target it's really hard to comprehend what I'm saying about the differences. But believe me it's like night and day.

The Centech gets mentioned alot out here. And for the price it is a decent buy. You can use it to pinpoint but it is not ideal. To drive home the point you need to consider that the Centech was not originally made for people in our hobby. It was made for carpenters. Carpenters wave it across a board to see if there are any nails present before cutting or planing it. Us metal detectorists have adapted it for our purposes and it works ok for that. But it was not "designed" to take you directly to individual pieces of metal as quickly as possible. It was designed to wave across a board and get quick feedback on whether or not metal was present anywhere in the board. In other words, it is a hand held "metal detector" not a "pinpointer". Says so right on the box. :tongue3:

By the way, Garrett and Centech also make "security wands" that are like the type used in airports. Could I use these to pinpoint? Probably. But a device specifically designed for the job makes more sense.

There are at least 3 or 4 detector companies who have the exact same design but it is branded as their own . If you get on some of the sites with products for sale from China you will see this exact same design(I wouldn't pay more than $20 for one). I had one from Kellyco years ago, it was malfunctioning within a year. The Garrett Pro pointer is WAY better quality(I have a Minelab Profind which I love, but the Garrett is No.1 among detectorists, a close second would be the Sun Ray probes IMHO).

the reason you can't use a probe on a tesoro is tesoro it's a one battery wounder

Is there any Sunrays that are compatible with a Teknetics Omega 8000?

The sensitivity mod on the Fpoint is very touchy. If you adjust it to get better depth in nice weather, you might find that you run out of adjustment room, when the weather gets hotter. I had to re-adjust my internal trimmer when it wouldn't stop buzzing cause I couldn't adjust the sensitivity to stop it in the hotter outside temps.
