Lake Martin Spotted Bass Fishing - Tuesday - 04-20-2021

Gary and I fished from 7:30 - 12:30 to the East of Kowaliga bridge in the same general area as last Tuesday. Water temp was 68 again with partly cloudy skies and no wind. The predicted high today was 76 and it was around 60 @ 7:30. Had a few keepers that didn't measure up as good as most of them. Still, these 18 out of 19 yielded 5 pints of fillets. We managed to get pretty close to a couple of Bald Eagles too--an adult and a juvenile. You have to enlarge pic2 to the max to see them (not the best picture).

Fished a navy seal sailfish tournament we took second place and had the honor to meet michel thornton the medal of honor recipient. It was a fun time for all !!

I'll be off in a couple weeks to fish a blue marlin tournament in the bahamas !! Hope to be posting some big fish pics !!

Congratulations on the tournament, Bart! I know that experience was a great one. I am glad you got to get to know some navy seal veterans. I am sure they have quite the stories and could use the healing that fishing brings. Good luck with your next tournament in the Bahamas.

Thank you WD....It was .y pleasure for sure !!

We see those pelicans down here for a little bit each year. They come and stay at one small area of the keys...beautiful birds in flight.

Lake Martin Spotted Bass - Monday, 04-26-2021

Ken and I fished from 7:30 - 1:30. Water temp was 68 with ~ 6 mph wind and the predicted high today was 82. We fished both sides of Kowaliga bridge and caught most of these with Texas rigged 4" lizards at depths varying from 10' - 30'. We trolled at the end of our trip and caught 5. After culling a few, we kept these 20 out of 24 that yielded 5 pints of fillets.

Lake Martin Spotted Bass - Thursday, 04-29-2021

I won't be able to bore you folks very much longer with this as the spring spawn will wind down soon. But until it does, we will catch as many as we can and stock up. Took a few shots of Kowaliga bridge, the landing there and some areas west of the bridge. I don't think I've mentioned before that there is no length restriction on this lake and the limit is 10 per person for black bass. Once again, Gary and I fished from 7:30 - 12:30. Water temp was 70 with 9 - 10 mph wind, overcast and the high today was 78. We caught them at 10' - 20' deep. We kept 20 out of 27 (+1 Bream) that yielded 5 pints of fillets.

This is the one mile long Kowaliga Bridge and the boat landing there at the north end of the bridge on Hwy 63. We usually launch here.

The next two shots are of an area known as Big Kowaliga Creek. This is only a small portion of the area.

We had to make a pit stop at Leg Island and "stretch our legs"!

This is an area known as "The Narrows" we are approaching.

And finally, our catch for the day.

Here are about 35,000 pounds of Washington state’s Dungeness crab!

I know I’ve already shared a few photos, but anytime I see the word fish, I want to share :-)

Talk about dead calm fishing conditions TDog..
Coinfetcher, FISH, Fish, fIsh, fiSh, fisH, FISH.... I haven’t seen your pics yet, I can hardly wait!

Fished for about 4 hours this afternoon. Windy to the point of being a hassle controlling the boat. Still fished hard and they just weren't working. Then on the way back to the ramp on one of our favorite points, I picked up a nice one. Just around the point, bam I caught another, Then bam, we both had one on, then bam I took another one. This was all in a 50 yard stretch. Fast and furious for 15 minutes then dead calm. Put 5 in the boat, 3 were in the 1 1/2 lb range and two smaller. Not much to brag about but did the souls some good to get out.
