Hey folks!
Got out for a few hours of detecting this morning starting in the pre-dawn 6 am hour. It was a wild day.
Early on I found a 6 wheat spill and within the first 30 minutes of my hunt I was up to 10 total wheats. Definitely a promising start. I also found a 1940 Seattle cat license early on which is super cool. Definitely the first of those I’ve ever found.
Well, the wheats kept on coming and I kept plugging along. A few hours in I was needing to head home and was at 25 wheat pennies, easily crushing my personal best from several months ago of 20. The only reason I wasn’t even more jazzed is because I hadn’t managed to find even a single silver coin.
At the end of the hunt I’m getting a 12.44 signal at 4 inches which is what I’ve been getting wheats at all day and figured I may as well add another to the tally. At 4 inches I didn’t see anything so I dug another inch out and finally the Pinpointer started going off in the bottom of the hole. Another inch or two down and I popped out my target and it’s definitely bigger than a penny.
I look closely and my mind is blown. A first year, 1892 Barber! No idea what that was doing in this area because the surrounding neighborhood is more like 40s/50s era. Also, the signal was lower than a typical silver quarter. It must’ve been low due to the depth and the weird brick/red clay dirt layer I found it in. Here it is, fresh from the earth.
I managed to find one more wheat while bee-lining to the car bringing my total up to 26 on the day.
Here are the goods.
A couple other unmentioned finds include the 1944 KGVI Canadian Penny and the Ellwest Jolar adult theater token. I didn’t bother to jot down every wheat date although the pre-40s wheats are: 17-S, 19, 25, 29, 30-S, 35, 35-S.
Thanks for looking all! I’m hoping to wrap up work early on New Year’s Eve to sneak in one, final, quick hunt to round out a great 2019.
Good luck out there!
