1950-D, a key date worth a couple of bucks even in circulated condition.

Wicca have u found v nickels crh just curious. I've only done a couple boxes of nickels but I've been saving everything before 1960
Good luck. Keep an eye out for the large mintmark above the Monticello 1942 has one that's silver one that's not.

War nicks, buffalos, 39d, 50d are the main ones.

All 3 38's are keepers, as is 39s, and 42d - all carry a small premium.

Check the "Monticello" & "Five Cents" on 1939 nicks- doubled die rev's are out there, but pretty tough.

Buy yerself a nickel folder & try to put together a full set. Pretty fun challenge - this is what I call old school CRHing- more for fun than big profits.

Have fun! Hope you bag some keepers!

Well I'm only 4 rolls in and I found my first war nickel. It's a 1945 D and MAN is it shiny!!! Tho thing has to be polished because I can't imagine it looking like this after 60+ years! This picture doesn't even do it justice...more results when I'm done!

Is it plated?

Sent from my iPad using TreasureNet

Could be based on how abnormal the shine is...either way it is definitely a War Nickel!

You find a lot of shiny war nickels like that. The reason is, there are a lot of people who over the years have created sets of "wartime coinage" and sold them to the general public, since the public takes shiny to be new and good, they overpolish their coins a lot even though they are well worn. They sell these for much higher than what you'd buy them at a coin shop (for example, a steel penny, a war nickel and a common date Mercury dime they'd package them up all fancy and sell it to the public at $15)

If you're lucky, you can get a bag with a set dumped, I did and got ~12 war nickels from a single $100 bag.

The results are in

3 war Nickels
42p, 43p, 45p

1 x 1939
18 x misc 1940's
15 x misc 1950's

Not sure why I pulled out the misc 40's and 50's...is there a reason to hang on to them or maybe sell them???

Also found 1 x 2001 Mexican coin.

I keep pre 60's to make coin books for people I know who collect coins and give them out as gifts...unless they are key dates though, they really aren't worth more than the later nickels.

I keep all the pre 60s I find at my gas station just because they are cool. Imagine all of the different people that used them in the past 50-60 years. Have yet to find a wartime though. I'm lookin hard I want to find one bad haha

wheats - 45
steel pennies - 1

V nickels - 1
buffalo nickels - 2
wartime nickels - 0

mercury dimes - 1
silver dimes - 6

silver quarters - 4

90% halfs - 0
40% halfs - 0
