Went panning for the first time with my son yesterday. It was fun but very cold in the creek. We were out for about an hour before my 9 year old was too cold and we called it a day. Found about 8 flakes in the pans we did at the creek, and then I took a 5 gallon bucket of concentrate home to pan at a later time that I'm hoping to get through in the next week or so. There is just something awesome about seeing a shiny flake in your pan and know that you pulled it out of the ground yourself. I live in Southern Indiana and am going to start looking around the Ohio river soon.

That's Great! Lots of folks don't get flakes their first time, congrats!

That's awesome! Get a sluice, you'll get more gold and can still pan it out in the warmth of the garage or something. Plus you can set up your boy as a sluice feeder, nice and warm and you can stay out longer :)

yeah I was looking at a sluice but am still trying to figure out how to properly use one. Been looking at a backpacking version since it is cheap.
