Got out this morning before the rain to try my 250 out. Hit my local tot lot . I will have to say it is an upgrade from my previous toy although with the headphones that came with it I was left with one heck of a headache. I like the built in pinpointer ... that helped ..

13 pulltabs
6 bottle caps
1962 dime - (at about 8 inches, full spade length)
9 pennies
1 nickel
3 dimes
1 canada dime
2 quarters
1 bullet
2 pieces of wire
1 button
1 soccer cleat

Does a 1962 dime qualify as first silver coin ?

The machine left me with a migraine but after throwing up ... I feel alot better ... If it does it again, that would be rather crappy.

Definately more accurate then my previous machine. Can't wait to get back into the woods. Was good to get out.

Thats quite a fist time out. Silver is silver in my book, so the 62 would be good to me.

Yes the 1962 would be your first silver. So WTG on your great hunt...Matt

Congrats on the first silver. There are plenty more out there to be found.

any us half dollar, quarter or dime from 1964 or older is silver .. there are some silver nickels I think 1942-45 but not sure someone else can help with that please.congrats on your first silver

Congrats on your first silver keep it going lots more to find. Nice hunt.

yes the US 1962 "Rosie" dime is 90% silver -- but just what year is the candain dime? -- since depending upon year they too can be silver  canadian silver content of coins (in vermont your lible to run across candain coins a good bit)-- dime ,quater , half 1858 thru 1919 - .925 (sterling) silver --- from 1920 to 1967 --.800 fine silver --after 67 no more silver in halfs -- 67 & 68 saw .500 silver in the dimes and quarters with non silver dimes and quarters starting to be issued in 1968* ---so be on the look out for 1967 and earler candain "silver"

even the "5 cent" pieces in canada were silver 1858 till 1919-- .925 *

Congrats on ur first silver! i use the ace 250 to and its a great machine.

Hey, it's silver. Older places produce older silver. Congrats

Silver, indeed! I have the same headphones that came with my 250..it takes a couple times of wearing them to "get used" to the loud pings and beeps in your ears. I can finally "stand" wearing mine. Some guys buy the phones where you can adjust the volume. Nice job and happy hunting! :headbang:

dont cover both ears the same thing happened to me i usually use a dfx 300 and the 250 left me in painonly one phone on your not dominate ear

it is in my book great find

silver is always a great find.
and I would get a set of headphones with volume control

Congrats on your first silver!!
I was thinking about getting the Ace 250. How is it as far as depth and readout?
Also what if you put some cotton in your ears, would that help?
Anyway, Happy Hunting!

John

with the 250 an adjustible volume headset really is a must.

Nice find on your maiden voyage. Those headphones that come with the Ace............ well mine are in a landfill near here. They are junk. The pinpointer on the ace has done me well. I have got real good with it. Good luck and look forward to your 09 finds

Congrats on your first silver

I use the Ace as well- it performs admirably in tot lots

Here's my solution to the "too loud" headphone dilemma

Just move the earpieces forward so they're sitting on that bony area directly in front of your ear.

You can still hear the different tones just as well, but the volume is " turned down" to a comfortable level.

Good luck

Congrats on your 1st silver...more will be coming your way, just keep on swingin'.

 RR
