Took my White's Coin Pro out earlier this evening to hunt a few places around campus. Stuck to mostly a parking lot with meters standing in a grassy area. Ended up finding about 30-something cents in clad scattered around various meters. Everything was on the surface though. I did get a few potential sub-surface signals, but the ground is still mostly frozen and digging with my plastic spade isn't easy at the moment.

It's tough determining some of these signals though. Some are fairly solid, and others are very erratic. I have a feeling I might be getting interference from utility lines and rebar in the curbs/sidewalks. Perhaps I should just practice on a few planted surface targets or something to help me get used to determining different signals. I've set the discrimination to coins only for now. I'll try to find a nice open grassy area free of snow around some of the older buildings for starters.

Being a complete newbie to this is going to be frusturating for the first few hunts, but I'm persistent and hoping to get the hang of things quickly. :)

Hey good luck, practice you'll get it. Careful of the addiction. You need a new shovel for sure. Home depot has hand one with serrated edge for $10ish

Good luck, do not get frustrated, dig every signal you get (away from the re-bar) you will soon be finding lots of stuff and you are getting started in a mega fun hobby.

Went out yesterday for a few hours. I found my first coin! A 1978-D penny. Also dug a crushed soda can which I put in the garbage. The ground still needs to thaw out though. I got some nice signals that I was unable to dig because of the frozen soil.

All it's going to take is one really good find and you will want to hunt EVERY chance you get, good luck and keep at it, you might get a nice piece of jewelry.

Oh man you screwed now -pretty soon you will be a TREASUREFIEND TOO!!!! :icon_pirat: :icon_pirat: :icon_pirat:

Frozen ground, I hear that, but I think I took my last picture of snow today, in a shady spot.
