Took my White's Coin Pro out earlier this evening to hunt a few places around campus. Stuck to mostly a parking lot with meters standing in a grassy area. Ended up finding about 30-something cents in clad scattered around various meters. Everything was on the surface though. I did get a few potential sub-surface signals, but the ground is still mostly frozen and digging with my plastic spade isn't easy at the moment.
It's tough determining some of these signals though. Some are fairly solid, and others are very erratic. I have a feeling I might be getting interference from utility lines and rebar in the curbs/sidewalks. Perhaps I should just practice on a few planted surface targets or something to help me get used to determining different signals. I've set the discrimination to coins only for now. I'll try to find a nice open grassy area free of snow around some of the older buildings for starters.
Being a complete newbie to this is going to be frusturating for the first few hunts, but I'm persistent and hoping to get the hang of things quickly.
