First time magnet fishing, what did I find??

Went tubing down a river that doesn't allow power boats and I pulled this up. mostly pretty shallow, anywhere from 1 foot deep to 10 or so along the whole thing. It is all metal and the inside piece comes out and only fits in one way. It is about 8 inches long.

The piece with the handle looks like a sharpening steel, but have no idea about its "scabbard."

Could the "Scabbard" actually be a handle for it, or dual purpose as a handle with the ability to store the sharpening steel inside the handle for storage purposes?

That thing is what old timers used to magnet fish with. Didn't work to good.

What about an old grease gun? The inside of the piece that comes out almost looks a bit preserved...

Keep the magnet fishing up. I've latched onto a lot of cool stuff doing that. Makes for good conversations on the local fishing bridge.
