Went to my local gold buyer to inquire about "silver dollars" for melt and did well with that (but thats another story). Before leaving I saw wheats on the counter and asked about them. Turns out he had a bunch and was selling them to a wholesaler on the cheap. I made him a better offer and walked out with 7 rolls and some loose at 3 cents each penny. Got them home to look through them and what I found is astounding, my best find yet:

1909-S!
23x 1909 VDB (all unc, most red-brown)
1922-D (weak D?)

3x 1909
2x 1915-D
1927-S
2x 1912
1932
2x 1933
1927-D
1932-D
2x 1920-D
1926-D
1928-S
2x 1921-S
1923-S
-a bunch of "alright" dates

Most of the 1909 VDBs are high grade and could be slabbed.
I took most of these pics through my loup for clarity.

Sweet! I've been going through pennies forever and nothing like that

Well it wasn't completely hunting through random rolls of pennies but it was a good score based on the dates and it depends on what you paid for them. If you just paid 3-5 cents per wheat then that's a great deal.

The 1909 VDB in the picture looks borderline AU/BU in RD/BN.

I forgot to mention that part... I paid 3 cents each!

All the 1909 VDB's look like that too. Someone must have put them away long ago for them to stay in such nice condition for so long.

I know I didn't get them from the bank for face but these were truly genuine "unsearched" rolls of wheat pennies and at 3 cents each its good enough for me.

Nice pickup.

I don't do pennies, but just out of curiosity looked at one of the on-line pricing guides since you has so many 1909 varieties. Looks like you maybe got a few hundred dollars worth of coins for $10 bucks or so.

What do you think the haul is worth? In any case, it is a heck of a return on investment.

I put the 1922-D at around $15, the 1909-S at around $90 and an MS63 RB 1909 VDB at $50. So $50 x 23 coins = $1150 plus all the others should be around $1300 for everything if I were to put it all on ebay. Of course it costs money to get the coins slabbed and some might not be MS63 but others could be even higher grade. Realistically its probably closer to $850 with all the variables factored in.

That was a great score in my book i would have paid the same for oldies like that keep up the hunt . Ron

Probably the coolest score I've seen, congratulations! :headbang:
