First Time Huntin'

I came I went and I conquered . . . uh no not really but I had a lot of fun and I would- am definitely going again. :tongue3: As Kerm said we started off in an open field, went into the woods (I met a spider). Four hours time flew even through battling with skeeters (biting through jeans) and drizzle I ended up with couple quarters, pennies and a dime. Nothin' too special, all modern. I did find what looks very much like a part a rotary phone and a hinge of somekind.

Over all, I had fun and had a few chuckles every time I came up with tin, call me Tingurl. :-[ Next hunt I'm gearin' up and I'll be doin' my own (well, most of haha) my own diggin'. Thank you for that babe. :-* Even though Kerm had hoped for a better turn out, and I'm still getting the hang of the signals nothing squelched my interest in the hobby, which is a lot more than one can say for thier first time . . . hunting. :laughing9:

Re: First Time Huntin'

Great job Mare, I'm glad you had fun and hopefully you will start finding older coins soon. The more I look at that "hinge" I think it kinda looks like part of an old clipboard or something. May be the others can help figureout what it is.

I'm thinkin I should of taken Tim's (Lowbatts) advise and started you out on your 1st hunt in a playground just so it would be easier to learn what good signals sound like and not so much can-slaw and trash but you did better than I thought you'd do as that place is filled with trash!!!

Re: First Time Huntin'

Dial M for MONEY!
I wish I'd had it that good my first time, but iron pipe chunks and nails just sounded so much better back then..... Ya know, "When I was your age..."

All of our detecting gear was made from sticks and mud.

Nice start!

Re: First Time Huntin'

Congrats on what I would say is a great first hunt. Way better than my whole first week of hunting.....and you were only 3 years away from hitting your first silver quarter. You will do well, I can already tell. Good hunt and HH!

Re: First Time Huntin'

More than half a buck in free money, and you had fun! (Not to mention the nice spider you met. ;D)

Sounds like a successful first hunt to me! Congrats!

Re: First Time Huntin'

Congrats on your first hunt. ...........and your finds

I'm quit sure you did better then my first hunt. Pull tabs are more the norm..
You got some gas rebate money and " A RELIC " too...
Just remember that in this hobby there are good days and then there are bad days but during that time always have some FUN and some good Laughs.....
Enjoy it......

especially if there is a raccoon wondering around and someone comes up from behind and touches your arm..... :walk: :walk:

And that deep red color tells me that they've been in the ground for a while. Sometimes I find 1965 clad that's probably just been dropped. You are close to silver.

Keep it up. I am saving all that clad I find along the way and will buy the best treasure I can at the end of the year with it--sort of a goal to enjoy the clad that comes more. For me its especially exciting when I am about to fill another quarter or dime roll.

Have fun.

Re: First Time Huntin'

Hey Mary, I think you did great for your first hunt! The cool thing about this hobby is you never know what trash you dig may be treasure to someone else. For instance, I find the '75 memorial cent with the rectangular corrosion on it very interesting, and I would gladly trade 3 nudie tokens for it! ;D

You see, while others are out looking for the same old seated or Barber halves, I strive to find the weird and elusive memorial cents. Here's a shot of my prize cent found at 6" deep.

A triple clipped '61, with readable date!!!

*disclaimer-The author was bored this morning and was trying to figure a way to slip in a picture of his only crappy find for yesterday. Everything stated after the first two lines of his post are complete B.S.

Re: First Time Huntin'

Congrats on your first time out Silvergurl! I can remember my first time... sharing the detector with my brother and Dad. We all came away with about a dollar in change from a local park. We were so thrilled to be digging up clad... Stick with it, I'll be looking for some great finds coming from you. You might also want to try down at Silver Beach :) It's easy diggins... and low on trash... that's what I know. HH! :icon_thumleft:

Re: First Time Huntin'

Nice job for your first time out! :headbang:

That sure beats a pound of pulltabs and screwcaps. I've found a few pennies with that little box on them recently and think they might be from a seeded hunt.

A seeded hunt is a type of group hunt where coins or tokens are intentionally buried by the organizers, to be found by the participants. Sometimes certain coins are marked so that, in more competitive hunts, participants can find as many as they can to win a prize.

A seated hunt, however, is something I am waiting for! lol

And here I thought they were all "Seated Hunts" Joe. Think you mean "Seated find" and as Yoda sez, "You will, you willlll"
