So I went to the bank yesterday and bought two rolls of Half Dollars. First time doing it. I found a 1999 s proof. Not much but I thought it was a cool find for my first time and only two rolls. It looks almost uncirculated. Can't wait to go through some more rolls!!

Sadly, even though it is legal tender, they don't have to accept it how you could give it to them. For the same reason most gas stations won't accept anything more larger than a twenty dollar bill. It's worth a try to pay things off in coins though.

If it's a debt, they do. You won't get far trying to make transactions with large amounts of coin, but if you owe money then they take it.

I just paid my property taxes with $350 in halves, and I pay a personal loan with $275 halves EVERY MONTH. The loan place doesn't even flinch anymore... and they never counted.. they said if it wasn't right, they're just adjust my account.

Well I live with my girlfriend and her grandma so I doubt she would take halves she's too old lol. I'll try next time at the smoke shop and see what happens. I usually just use them for small purchases here and there. That's why I don't want to be overloaded with them yet.

Quite contrary, old people freaking love halves.. they save even clad ones thinking they're rare. But yeah, don't burden a landlord, especially a family one.

and when you use halves often at the same place for small purchases, they're going to ask where you get them. Just say "an old coin collection, it's hard times". They'll start refusing them if you tell the truth.

She would think a couple were cool but not rolls. Good idea about the times are hard line, thanks haha. Make them feel bad that I gotta use my collection

I didn't say that you couldn't use them, just that they aren't required to accept them if they don't want to.

Which is wrong. If you owe a debt, or tax, they must take them. Otherwise, you can sue and force the creditor to extinguish your debt. It's all there in the law, use it.

I wish you could still pump gas before paying.. that would be a great way for me to dump $80/week or drive away when they refuse :)

In all the circle ks in st Louis you can now pay afterwards. That's where I work. Drive offs have shot up but o well that's how corporate wants it.

Went out and got 5 rolls of nickels. Got two buffalos, a 1939, 1950 and a few other pre 60s. Not bad for only 5 rolls!

yeah man, you're pretty lucky. You'd do some damage if you could score a box :headbang:

I can only individually drop rolls out of the safe and its time delay so it would take awhile to do multiple rolls. And they might get suspicious if they see me doing that on camera haha. I check every coin I get from the safe and from customers. I also look through our coin dispensers when its slow. Usually only find silver dimes no quarters or nickels

Was it a 1950-D, or just plain 1950.

3 rolls of pennies. And one roll of nickels. The penny with the hole is a 1929 and the nickel is a 1892

BenButton, it's amazing what you can find in such small amounts. Keep it coming and more luck to you!
