First thoughts and review of the new XP Deus elliptical coil.

Didn't mean to startle ya, Cal... Seems I just got a dud, lol. I'll be on the phone in the morning though.

He wasn't the only one startled!

I'd like to add that during my air testing most of the time no VID registered and the smallest or no horseshoe registered either...i was going by a diggable tone. The VDI's I mentioned for the gold coin were measured at 4" for reference for those who may have been wondering.

Glad this thing seems to be checking out ok. Gives me something to look forward to.

400.00 is enough to startle me! lol Im gonna give it a work out in some thick iron this week or the beginning of next week.

Update: for what it's worth, I seem to have fixed the depth problem I was having with my coil. I wanted to exhaust all possibilities before I went through the trouble of sending it back, so I charged all coils, the control unit, headphones, pinpointer - everything. Then I updated everything with the latest V4 software, which I was already running V4, but you know as well as I that there have been a few versions of V4 since it was released.

So I don't know what or how, but I'm now getting air test readings in the ballpark of what others are getting. The most impressive was when it hit on a large colonial button at around 12". Now that I can live with.

I should have known from the start - when in doubt, reload...

Now I can rest easy.

dude thats great! now I just got to wait on ups who says my shipment has been delayed because of late trailer . bummer.

My friend had to do the same thing with his new out of box Deus...11" coil wouldn't hit a dime at 5"....reloaded 3.2 and all was good....glad it was a quick easy fix for you

Must be a recurring theme.

Reloading software seems to be a SOP.

The French like to reload software on there expensive machines (daily)

Notice how that mid-conductor nickel depth went UP with frequency while all the high conductors went down - just as you would expect for HF. Bodes well for gold and relic brass/small lead. Cool.
Relic hunters.....set this coil to 28.8 kHz and hit your old sites again, it's a mid conductor magnet in iron...not sure if it's the frequency or the possible better separation from the coil size or both but I spent about 45 minutes this evening at the old barn site on my property and although didn't find any great keepers I did pull 4 small brass valves, 3 brass keys, a chunk of thick flat lead about the size of a silver dollar and a 1980 quarter. This site I have hit with 2 different Garrets, a Minelab and the Deus with the 9" standard coil...to say this site 150 x 150 foot site has been pounded is an understatement. I CAN NOT wait to get this thing to PA where my old sites are free of modern trash.

I thought you got rid of the HF 9" because you didn't like it? What made you change your mind about the Elliptical? The HF 9" should be deeper on relics.

Thanks for the tip, Tedyoh. I'll be using it this Saturday on some old Colonial farmland. Musket balls and buttons, here I come...

Im hoping seperation on this coil is better been waiting on it . the nine hf coil didnt do much for me but it was stable.

Looking forward to your review

Same here. Happy with the 9" HF, but interested in those who have both confirming whether separation is better with the elliptical. Have not had a chance to put my HF to work on relics, but these HF coils seem like they are going to be button magnets, hopefully. Yeah, mid-conductor monsters for sure. For me, if I can max out depth penetration in hot soil on mid-conductors, I will at least take that vs. separation (so the 9" HF is definitely a keeper for me) but if separation shines with the elliptical, I would sure be interested.

I'm gonna post a question I have in a new thread and see what you guys think.
