I finally found my first silver quarter... I am more of a relic hunter, but I decided to try my luck in a farm field where my father thought there was a church 100 years ago. My father went with me so I wasn't expecting a very long hunt or much success. I handed any targets still in a dirt ball that my father could break open, and finally after 45 minutes he said we had a quarter! When he said it was "1989" I was really bummed, I thought any coin would be at least 100 y/old. My dad kept looking at the date and started to question the date, I said, "Let me put some eyes on it"
"1939"!! So pumped! Great shape! other than the plow strike (Adds character) haha
I learned later that the coin was one of 2.6 million, only 4% of quarters from 39' were a "s" mint. image.jpgimage.jpg

Congratualtions on the nice find! :occasion14:

Congratulations mate on a good hunt made special by being with your Dad. I would give all I have or ever will have just to be able to sit down and talk to my Dad for just 5 mins.

A sweet first - Congrats! :icon_thumright:

Thank you for the comment, I can relate to your statement. I have spent 6 years hunting a 1912 R.R. logging camp. This camp was owned by the company my grandfather worked for railroad logging in the 30's...if only I could visit with my grandfather about my experience. I wouldn't want to visit with anyone else more than him. Thank you for reminding me having my father still here to share this with was very special.

Congrats on your first.
Nuthin like digging up that beautiful old silver...

Congrats on your first silver quarter- seems you and many others are nabbing their "firsts" recently.
