After two months of combing this site and drooling over everyone else's finds, I can finally post one of my own! After two months of drooling over all of your finds and learning everything I can about the hobby. . . the Girlfriend got the hint and got me an Ace 250 for Christmas! The very next morning I was out in a park by my house. . . well yesterday after about 12 total hours of hunting since Christmas, I struck my first ever "good," find!
I go to college in Walla Walla, Wa and there is a nice old turn of the century neighborhood lined with nothing but turn of the century mansions!! I got permission to hunt the yard of "Suttner Mansion," built in 1910 and after A LOT of nails (some of them square) there was a pretty little silver sheen in the dirt that i had been CRAVING to see/find/feel for the very first time in my metal detecting career it was a 1942 s Mercury Dime!! Verrry beat up but a SILVER Mercury dime nonetheless!! That feeling of euphoria, of pulling a SILVER coin out of the ground where so many dozens of people unknowingly walk by every day... was amazing.
I was also wondering if you all remember and wanted to share your first ever silver find! I'd welcome/appreciate the stories!
p.s. the pic of the house is Suttner Mansion where i found the Merc!

Congrats on your first silver.Mine was a 1903 h canadian 5 cent coin.( I live in Wisconsin). It took me about 12 hours of searching to find it too.

Congrats on your first and here's hopin' for many more. My first was an 1856 seated half dime, my second was an 1893 barber quarter. And I began hunting in July 2011, about 6 months! Definitely an addicting hobby! Good luck to you...

Congrats! now your hooked. My first silver coin was a mangled(but shiny) Mercury dime I "eyeballed" as a kid.I begged my mom for a metal detector, and got the $14.99 Radio shack orange handle special.I have been addicted ever since. An exact model complete with box, of that first metal detector is hanging in my relic room.Man I love this hobby!

My first was a 1942 washington quarter found with an ace250

Welcome to the hobby! Nice to see a fellow Washingtonian in the forum. My first was a 1900 barber quarter. Went back to the same spot a couple days later and found a 1903 barber quarter about 5 feet away from the first. Good luck and hope to see more great finds posted by you soon!

Got my first detector a year ago last September. In the next month, I found a large men's silver ring with a large Sapphire. Odd thing was, it ID'd in the penny range and was bouncing around a lot. I love the way silver comes out of the ground clean....dirt just doesn't stick to it, well, not much anyway.

Congrats on the silver! My first silver find was a sock full of silver coins that I found in a house we moved into when I was 13. It was about 30 dollars worth . Nothing real valuable but an awesome score. We contacted the people we bought the house from and they said it was not theirs and they bought the house from the bank.
The bad thing is ,that coin collection disapaired from my parrents house while I was away .. Pretty sure an X brother in law walked away with them...
First detecting silver find was an 1853 ,3 Krultzer found in Germany. About the size of a dime.

Hey S.H.N., I was born and raised just across the Blue Mts in Elgin, Oregon. Got hooked in 1972, Twin Falls, Idaho.
Saw my first treasure magazine, and bought a nice White's detector. Went out into the yard of the house I lived in, and
found a Canadian silver quarter. It was a rush. YOu won't forget your first.
Still hunting 40+ years later, but now in South Korea, and getting a thrill out of coins with holes in the middle of them
popping out.
Good luck. Keep posting. The best are yet to come.

Last year at boyscout camp i found a 1934 silver quarter on the cafertiera floor being kicked around! Then durring the same summer i found my first offical silver with my detector. It was in the aderondecks on a over detected beach, there would be atleast 1 detectoriest there every am! I was where the grass met the sand and pulled out a 1943 mercury dime in beautiful condition! It just shows if you try hard enough places are never hunted out!

My records indicate that I found my first silver on July 20, 2004, the day I bought my detector. I found two silvers in my yard that day, and I don't remember which was first. They were a 1920 Mercury dime and a 1950 Roosevelt dime. To enhance the story, I'll claim that the Merc was the first! ;D Quick research indicates that I've found at least 9 silvers here (outside) and several inside.

You are hooked now:) That sure got the juices flowing I bet.

OHH did it!! When I realized I had just pulled a Mercury Dime I started bouncing around and happy dancing to the extent that I was starting to draw attention to myself from the neighbors!!!

I can't remember it was 42 years ago!

My first silver was a 1907 Barber Quarter which was also the first signal that I dug with my ACE350....hadn't dug anything else. Found it in my yard the very first day I started metal detecting, which was 5/18/2011. That hooked me on detecting for life. I've since then found a lot more silver, but have also upgraded to the E-Trac. Love the hobby and the history!

Seems 42 is a popular find. Mine was a 42 D Merc. As already stated. Your first won't easily be forgotten.....
