Just a newbie got my excal about a week ago. Been finding some clad and pull tabs in Grand Traverse Bay.

Got my first wedding band today, it is kind of corroded, I thought it was junk metal but my wife thinks it may be silver. What is the best to way to clean it it? Was thinking to soak in a baking soda solution.

Thanks,

Pete

Looks like silver..congrats!

I put my corroded silver in a square of aluminum foil with a sprinkle of salt. Fold it all up tight and put it into a shallow bowl..add boiling water to just cover. After a feww hours remove the ring wash off as much black as possible and with wet baking soda polish it up.

Thanks for the advice, I will give it a try.

On my way to the beach after some coffee to see if can some more to clean.

Happy Hunting.

here is the best way i have found

Welcome. Good start and congratulation!!

Thanks everybody for the kind words and information.

I tried the aluminum foil and salt and took some of the corrosion off, but there is still a lot left that I cant read the any markings yet. I also got a possible gold charm and what looks like junk kids ring to clean now. So when I get a few more items I will try the electrolysis.

Happy Hunting,

Pete

Congrats on your find. I hope there are many more to come!
