Well, this is my first post on TreasureNet with photos of todays finds, so I told the Mrs’s we had to make sure it wasn’t all pull tabs and clad pennies. The wifey pooh and I hit a local park around 8 o’clock this morning and swung the coil on and off (had lunch under the trees and played Frisbee with the dog) till a little after 1:00pm. Cloudy overcast day for the most part in the mid 60’s, so only a handful of folks at the park- which was perfect.
V3i was a quarter magnet today and the wife is really starting to get the hang of the XLT (I think she would still be out there if I hadn’t been the one who drove). Not much in the way of vintage, but sure enjoyed getting out and found plenty to dig. For you guys in Washington, you can respect what I am saying when I mention it is nothing to find a 80’s quarter 7-9” down. I guess it is all the rain we have and stuff continues to creep deeper (but the moisture does help with the signal). I see posts where folks have found Reale’s half that deep on the east coast.
Probably a novice question, but is it the mineralization that turn the coins red?
Thanks for looking!

Congrats... sounds like you guys had a nice day out. Clad or old, I'm happy to pull out a coin. Most of what I get is junk! But our times will come.

I think I goofed up the pictures as they don't seem to get any bigger.

Congrats , send some rain here to Alabama if ya don't mind!

Pretty sure its the small amount of Iron in the coin that turns it red; iron-oxide

Nice haul! I could use some of that cooler weather here about now!

Also the redness is from the acidity of the soil as far as what I understand.

Good haul you got there Mole Man  a ball field that I hunt often (when we're not in the middle of a drought) the clad is deep like that everywhere in the ball fields. I can go out in the woods and find an old coin right on top just under the leaves. I have found a buffalo nickel no more than an inch down and no more than six inches away I got another nickel target but much deeper and dug a V nickel at about 8 inches. It's them Moles I think:icon_biggrin:

Good show!
About those red nickels, gotta be a combo of compostion and soil, sometimes they do, sometimes they don't..
HH to you@! :icon_thumleft:

It is amazing that we do find 80's and 90's quarters 7"-9" inches deep here in the NW
on a regular basis Mole Man. Like you, I think it might be the amount of rain we get in
the winter months that allows the coins to seek deeper levels.....just wish those deep
zincolns didn't sound so sweet! Nice hunt you two had. Gold Nuggets :hello:

Well, we are in store for a bit more rain tomorrow, so I will put out a bucket for you:laughing9: What part of Alabama are you in? I grew up in Ozark, went to the Aviation College there and then later Troy State- Roll Tide baby:headbang:
