Metal Detecting
Hi everyone! First Post in the forum! :hello:

I found this item metal detecting at a NC plantation home originally built in 1780 and inhabited at least through early 1900s. I am at a complete loss as to what this is. My first thought was part of a medal. But closer I look, I see a few small raises on the back and possibly where a shank or connector was in the middle. Seems it had red color on the back and the front leaves. Leaf tips are pointed and somewhat sharp.

Has anyone seen this before or can point me in the right direction?

Thank you! :icon_thumright:

Welcome to Tnet neighbor!! It's a nice little piece. I don't think it came from a ribbon but that is just a guess. Is it red or is that the aged brass color? I would think that it was plated at one time? Someone will know more.

It does have some weight to it. It's definitely not flimsy. I think it had the red on it. Back is perfectly flat with some slight bumps..

Interesting suggestion Matt, I've never heard of a Victorian picture nailhead before.

My first thought was furniture decoration, because of its small size, possibly from a document box? :icon_scratch:
There's no indication of an attachment point on the back, but it may have been from a hat or tie pin.

I came across this while doing research on a different relic.

Not saying this is what you have but there is no denying the similarity.
