I live in Indiana and detecting this time of year is usually out of the question but it got to around 54 today so with the ground partially frozen and some snow still visible I gave it a shot. Found only 3 coins but one was a 1890 Indian head penny! My girlfriend loves hunting also and she picked today to work a double shift! We are very competitive so she will be alittle upset when she gets home! ;D

Nice find, what type area you hunting?I still haven't found an indian cent or any coin/s pre-1900 for that matter,I have a couple barber dimes and a liberty nickel but those weren't dug, they were given to me.I never look a "gift horse in the mouth"LOL.Good luck and H.H.

Any time you can get out this time of year is great but the Indian head is a nice bonus
Good Hunting

Good find! I hope to get my hubby interested in mding when we thaw out here... he does like a bit of competition..so maybe that will get him out there! Either that..or finding some silver or gold! ;D

It's great to have a hunting partner that loves the competition. When I make a "decent" find, my hunting partner is as happy about it as I am. I, of course, feel the same when she has a good find.
Keep on digging!

I found it at our local fairgrounds which dates back to 1906.I figure it is common for us to have coins from around 30 years old in our pockets so probably was the same back then.We found last year 5 coins from the 1800's there last year "V"nickels and IH"s.

Congrats on the Indian Head,,,
I too am from Indiana, here on the west side of Indy...
I managed to get out for a few hours myself today, ( first time in a few weeks ), didn't have quite the luck you had.
I did find a rolled penny from the Indianapolis Zoo. I wasn't aware that they did that down there, I will have to check on it and get'n me a freash one...

I have tried to get permission to hunt the Indiana State Fair Grounds through e-mails...
The reply was " NO ",,, Get this, they said they used to let people in there to hunt, but had too many problems with the holes not being filled back in. Leave it up to some Idiot to ruin it for the reat of us...

Maybe we should all e-mail them together,, see if it would make a difference,,,, I doubt it...

P.S.> If you do get permission. Please let us know, so we can get in on the fun...
