First month of finds

North Las Vegas, NV
I've been lurking here since I got my DFX a month ago admiring everyone's finds. Unfortunately the Las Vegas area is only about 100 years old, so there's not a lot of old coinage to be found. Also, the Las Vegas city parks (the older ones in the area) are off limits to metal detecting except for surface finds. Luckily the Clark county and North Las Vegas parks don't have that same restriction.

So, after 20 trips out in 100+ degree afternoons I finally have something worth posting. It may not be much compared to some of the nice stuff I've seen on the board, but for a newbie, I'm pretty happy so far.

Besides the items in the picture I've also dug up plenty of clad (62 quarters, 52 dimes, 19 nickels, and 140 pennies), a fake diamond earring, 6 keys, a pet name tag (luckily the pet wasn't buried there as well), and of course the requisite 3142 bottle caps and pop tops. ;D

Thanks for looking and if you're in the Las Vegas valley and want to hunt, drop me a line.

The gold is there some where...... Keep looking, if not in town than in the hill. What you have is a great start for your first month.. HH

Only one month of detecting? You have been taking lessons, right? Looks like you might have everyone here beat!!! Great finds and I hope you out-do yourself next month.

Wow Tigger :o
Great finds for one month! Hope to see your new finds in the future.

Don't worry you'll have days when you only find 2 or 3 coins too. Nice silver coins - great condition.

Looks like your doing real well. Especially since you don't have the history surounding you.

Now all you gotta do is find a good silver with a D or S mint mark. You have that on your side.

Unlike us northerners we hardly ever get mint marks. But we do find alot of old coins.

Thanks all. I doubt I have much of anyone beat in finds, texaspapa, but I almost crapped my pants when I saw the Rosie and it wasn't a dingy brown color.

There are some pros and cons to hunting in Las Vegas. Bad -- It's 100 degrees every day when I go hunting and the best/oldest park is in one of the worse areas of town. Good -- I don't think there are many MDers here in town, so just about everything is virgin and the lack of rain and frost keeps most of the coins near the surface (I don't think I've found anything over 2.5 to 3 inches).

All the newer parks have their topsoil brought in from out of state. I think that's how I got lucky finding the IH since I found it the day after the park celebrated its 3rd anniversary. There are also lots of ghost towns near here that are open for MDing. I went up to one a few weeks ago, but because I only had my stock coil, I couldn't even swing it without getting blasted from all the old iron. I picked up a 4x6 DD Shooter and hope to go up and try again in another week or two.

Tigger.....Welcome to TreasureNet. It looks to me like there's great things in Las Vegas. :o
