First Metal Detector

Well after doing months of reading and research I finally got my own metal detector. I went with a Tesoro Silver Umax and my wife went with a Tesoro Compadre. We got one with 5.75 and one with 8" coil so she can decide which one she likes best. We got coil covers for both of them.

Thanks for all of the recommendations and advice. Now to decide which one to get for the beach trips hehe.

Thanks guys!

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, hadn't been here in a few days due to nice weather lol.

I love the Compadre and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting an "inexpensive" detector, not "cheap" by no means. My wife went with the 5.75 coil and I would recommend that over the 8" just due to the size and weight of it. That thing is light as a feather and you can scan holes no problem with a small coil. It's harder to get around a hole with an 8" coil or bigger. We just dig then lay the detector down by the hole and scan the dirt over the coil and throw it back in the hole if the target isn't in it.

You can swing it all day. I think I will sell my Silver Umax and get me a water proof one for the beach and fresh water, but the Compadre with the 5.75 coil is staying forever. You just can't beat that detector for the price. Beep and dig is the way to go. Nobody wants to get a neck ache looking a screen while swinging and wasting digging time looking at your numbers trying to figure out whats in the hole. Nobody knows what's in the hole until you dig it up. Yeah you can guess pretty accurately, but that's just wasting digging time and you could be on a new hole.

Get a Compadre with the 5.75 coil, you won't regret it. Some say the 8" coil is better for covering more ground, but I'm not in a hurry when I'm metal detecting. It isn't a job, so just take your time and overlap a tad and get to swinging. The recovery rate on this detector is super fast so you can swing it fast.

Buy one, you won't regret it. If you feel you need a bigger coil to cover massive ground for those big paying jobs (sarcasm) lol, then get one later after you find some good prizes with your Compadre. My wife and son have followed me around with it and it will find everything the Silver Umax does with the 8" coil, maybe even more since it's on a higher frequency.
