Today my girlfriend Kelly and I were privileged to hook up with Wallhangers for a day of hunting. We hit a couple field home sites WH researched that date to the 1860's, possibly earlier. I first dug an old button that WH believes is Civil War era. Could any of you button people please help I.D.? The back reads Scoville Watterly.(?) Heading back to the car for a lunch break I hit a solid signal and was thrilled to dig at roughly 6" my first Large Cent, an 1829! This is now my oldest coin to date. WH found another fatty IHP and Kelly found an old flat button. Research does pay off! Beautiful MI spring weather and MDing with friends made for an excellent day of hunting.

Thanks all for looking and being my inspiration. :icon_sunny:

Wow very nice finds

Those are some terrific finds Anne, I knew it would happen sooner or later that you nailed the good stuff. I sure wish I could have been there like last year and been able to see for myself that great moment when you pulled those beauties out of the ground. I Know the 3 of you had a great day and the finds were icing on the cake. Keep swinging and go get a bunch more now!

Wallhangers is having a good year and I see so are you. Congrats......Hogge

Congratulations on your first Large Cent! May the memory of finding it stay with you for a long time, (or till you find your second one )
I know that some areas of Michigan the soil is kind and the coppers coming out of the ground are in above average shape compared to lots of other areas in the country, so good luck on your future hunts.

Don

Thanks for all your kind replies!

Very sorry to make pic go, not my intent I assure you! I was scanning through pics and it just jumped out at me, I knew it wasn't intentional and that's what made it kinda funny. Maybe just mirror the pic in photo editor and repost? Don't worry about it, I don't think it upset anyone, I was just being silly :-) I had a friend who listed a large painting on ebay...with a mirrored frame...it wasn't until some days later someone pointed out that when she squated down to take close up pics of details that the mirrored edge showed ALL the details up her skirt....the moral being,

Have fun and keep digging.
