first hunt..

All tot lots have the potential for gold and silver jewelry. Almost all of my golds rings came from tot lots. They are always good for when you have 30 minutes to detect and don't want to get dirty. My secret is finding the tot lots that don't get hunted often. When I first started detecting, I was coming home with pockets full of clad and jewelry (and junk). Now it seems the detectorists are increasing in number because I rarely find as much stuff. But, I do find the out-of-way tot lots that not many know about and almost always do well there.

If you dig clad quarters and dimes from 3-4 inches under the chips, chances are, the area has not been detected in a long time, if ever.

Sand bar has to be a gold mine....... 1,000s of boats in and out of there.... people with money.... people drinking

probably have to go there at like 2 or 3am after the biggest party days to claim jump lol

there are a lot of parks out there... thanks for the tip on the digging 3-4" quarters and knowing how 'hunted' the park is... i'll keep that in mind

Ever hit Bigfoot Beach? They pack a lot into the 4 or 5 foot stretch from the road to the water. Lot of iron there also but there's good digs there if you get in on Sunday night.

I have been using the ACE250 for one year. Tot Lots and old home sites. In april of 2008 I found a 1943 WL half dollar at a 1916 house site. I found three sac dollars at different locations. I have also found rings good and junk in tot lots. the 250 is a wonderful machine. I have found that deep signals in tot lots are often from the underlayment that is used to repell weeds. There are also pipes that run under the underlayment. Look around to see if there are any gas grills near the tot lot as many times those pipes also run under the tot lot. The depth readings vary from the actual If it reads 2-4" the object may acutally be on top of the gtround or just under it. The CD that comes with the Ace250 explains some of the variations/variables. The longer I work with the machine the better my finds have become. I hunted 142 days in 2008 some very short hunts and some half day hunts. I would guess at approximately 275 hours this past year. I am not in a real cold area so I have not had the difficulty with digging that you are experiancing. This hobby just gets better with time. HHHH

haven't heard of Bigfoot Beach.. i'll have to google it to see where it's at ..etc

Sounds like you have got happier digs, Harry!
Brian, Bigfoot Beach is the one in Lake Geneva on the east side of the lake. Opposite Fontana, another beach, though private/municipal that could give some real nice returns.

Harry.. thanks for the ace testimonial.. review and advice!

Lowbatts, i think i actually swim at Bigfoot beach... ? The main beach off the strip correct? (have to pay to get in ..etc)

i wonder if places like this have access during 'off' hours or if they are just gated off?

Are you talking about the municipal beach next to the pier and arcade? Don't know the name of that, maybe it's Geneva Beach or something like that.

Bigfoot is the small strip of sand across from the picnic area SE of the town, noted by the sign that says Bigfoot Beach State Park. A good long walk from the downtown area.

Fontana is on the west end of the lake just sw of Williams Bay.

In terms of volume finds, Bigfoot would be the one to hit, second to that would be Fontana as it's far more populated by locals who are far more casual on it. The downtown beach has as many tourists as locals. Never seen any experts on beaching talk about it, but I think the locally-used beaches may produce better than the tourist beaches.

However the population density and demographics point to Bigfoot as the best bet. I was sitting at the water's edge there one day taking a break and this 3 or 4 year old picks up a very nice ear stud that had to be a half carat and his granny snatched it up quick and threw it in her purse. All the while I was watching kids from tiny to teen dancing and playing rough in the water, gold rings and bracelets and chains adorned many of them generously, too boot.
