Went on my first hunt of the year today. The site was Revolutionary war period. Finds were hard and not many of the 30 club members found coins. A few large cents and Indian heads, were found early and 1 1909 SLQ. I hunted for 6 hours and was getting skunked. I walked over were a few coins had been found, in a corn filed with foot high stalks. Swinging between the rows was the order of the day. I went slow an pushed between small rows as they would be where other hunters would be least likely to go. After about 15 minutes I got a good signal, possible nickel. It was in a narrow row next to a wider row that had at least 5 sets of foot prints showing. Only one nice shovel full of dirt was needed and as I look down saw the edge of a coin, finally I thought after 6 hours a coin. I did not want to rub it but I did a little and Lady Liberty Smiled back at me. A 1908 "V" nickel. One happy detectorist headed home.
