Okay, I am brand new to the hobby and while I am sure most of you will laugh at my ridiculous finds, this was my first hunt and they were exciting to me! Problem is, other than the jar, Penny and misc nails, not sure what this other junk is. I bought a Garrett AT pro, took it out of the box, powered on and started hunting. I own some property in SC and all of this stuff was found in a 1/4 acre spot that just stuck out because of how some rocks were situated. It's a 100 acre tract, that locals say has some history in the area. Anyway, would love some suggestions, tips and if you know what you are doing and live in the SC area, let's go hunt.

BTW, upon research of the jar, it says "Cheseborough MFG, New York". The owner of the company invented Vaseline. This particular jar was late 1800's to early 1900's. Found the jar and the Indian Head with in 10 yards of each other. The Garrett was going off constantly but because I am new, everything sounded the same. Using this rainy day to try and understand what I am doing so the next hunt is more productive.

Beautiful 1891 Indian Head cent - Wow! :blob9: Still haven't dug one after 3 years of detecting, though my son has dug several just yards away from me, lol. :dontknow:

My advice: Keep digging in that same area where you dug the Indian because you'll probably dig old silver there coins also! :icon_thumright: HAVE FUN! Andi

I dont see any ridiculous finds at all..thats a great first time out!. my first finds were state quarters and pop.tops. Looks like you have a good area to hunt

Nice IH cent for a first outing. The flat piece of metal with the slot in it looks like the flap from a chest lock. The others, other than the nails, no clue. Congrats on the first hunt and IH. HH

you done great if you pulled it out of the box and scored an indian head on your first outing. keep on diggin!

Great first hunt, there's going to be silver there for sure.

I call this beginners luck. Nice coin and jar and a nice pile of cool junk.
I think you're hooked.

Thanks, also added another pic of a bullett and 2 buttons I found.

Nice Indianhead! Sure wish I lived close to you, but I'm stuck in snow-filled Iowa though. Great first time out, and thanks for sharing!

I would hunt that area by yourself and learn your machine! Your doing great so far. Who knows you might even uncover a slave tag!!

Nothing to scoff at there, great finds! You have what it takes to be a good detectorist in looking at that pile of rocks in the middle of nowhere and gleaning that someone may have been there before.

Welcome to tnet! Looks like you're off to a great start with an interesting piece of property to hunt, Good luck and practice with some items you know what you have, bury them at different depths and close to other items (nails etc.) and listen to what the machine is telling you

we wont laugh, we were all new at one time. good job. welcome to tnet.

the big hoop is an earring --the metal flat piece with the slot in it is a trunks lock flap * -- you got overall buttons and a nice indian head head cent 1859 to 1909 was their time frame era .--the circle holed item on bottom is a electrical wire to item connector piece.

Looks like a promising site...keep digging it. ;)

Nice IH, the jar don't no, but it's cool anyway Wellcome to T net...HH..

Nice finds Jarl. The piece of metal with the rectangle hole that is inside the circle ring could also be a plow chisel off of an older plow. Hard to tell with the size relation to the other items. Just dig it all until you learn your machine. Ron
