What a way to start the year! Woohoo! The base has some grinding too. I haven't typed it yet but I'm thinking greenbriar.

Wow. That is clear and you have sunshine??? Are you thinking a member of the Dalton Family?:tongue3: Great start.

Yeah there is a Dalton greenbriar that is close. I will check after a bit. Just getting back to the house...ect..

Boy do I feel sorry for you ...we got snow cover, blinding snowshine, 20 at night, have to warm the vehicles up for 10 minutes before we drive, I get to hone my balancing skills when I walk around outside... your missin out.....guess thats the breaks though living down south....:dontknow:

Yeah .. Nothing beats a freezing cold toilet seat first thing in the morning.... those were the days.

Pretty sure its the oldest point from that site. Union side notch Mabey? Any help would be great.

I tell you what.... that sure looks like a flute. That material on it is not part of the stone like I thought. It could just be sandstone... what if it's pitch that's still remaining? I know that sounds crazy but I don't want to be the first one to find hafting adhesive on a Paleo point... and also be the one that removed it. Any advice?

Sandstone has been known to attach itself to other stone types. I would remove it if it was me unless it is the cortex. Nice find either way and I would be focusing on that spot you found it at.

Thanks man

Please keep in mind that I have not actually seen one in hand but if it were mine, that's what I would have called it. I looked it up in my ID book and that is the closest that I saw to your point. Says, Late Paleo (8,000 - 7000 B.C) :icon_thumleft: which ever it is, that's a nice point and the material really makes it extra nice. Congratulations on another good point.

Thank you very much.. all this good luck is starting to scare me. I've taken about 100 photos now..ha.. here's another LOL. I think it's a Union side notch too.

Gator, is that considered a gem quality point? Sure is sweet. Are you thinking paleo? I cant say I see a flute, but with that soft colored lithic, it's hard to call. I bet she is sweet in hand! Nice one bro!

Yeah I would call that gem quality agate. What type do you think it is?

I would say so as well. However, I wasn't sure if it was listed as a gem quality point. I know certain varieties of agate are considered gem quality. I can't find specifics though. I would put my money on yours being of gem quality. With that being said, a gem quality point belongs in a banner run. Any one else share that opinion?

Its banner to me but I don't know about all that. I'm still not sure of the type 100%.

Cool Find! Hafted skinning knife, (blunt point).

That's what I was starting to think too. I belive your right. The flaking on the back favors one side. I don't belive this was reworked ...rather knapped to be a knife from the start. That makes me think there should be a type name.

Gator. Do a search on here from a member named treefrog. His points he dug were covered with deposits due to location . Im pretty sure he used muratic acid to clean them. They were in way bad shape and he cleaned them like new. I know people say do not remove patina but in his case it was not an option and he found killer stuff. Maybe check out the search feature with Muratic acid in this section and see what you think. Interesting piece. Not sure if Dalton as you originally thought but looks to be knocking around in that time frame. Nice find and great pictures. It is not rind or cortex is it?
I can't find anything exactly like it.This one is full of inclusions,,,? And beat to death :icon_scratch:
