I am whitesdfx300 on the web site. If you do this...want to do this....or have no idea what it is....lets talk!! Here are a few pics of todays hunt. 2 caches in about 1 1/2 hours.

I also want to ad......this is a great hobby to find places to MD that you not knew existed!

Looks like nice territory. I've thought about it but the metal detecting bug has bitten me hard! I'm sure I'll try it eventually. There are a lot of caches to be found around here too. Enjoy and good luck!!

As I said I love to MD. This is almost as addictive.....some of the caches have prizes.....but nothing like finding a big gold or silver!!!

I did one in Minnesota and nothing was thier. except an empty tupperware container. Gps handheld Rhino120 by Garmin. Works pretty good.

Good Luck.

I do this at times too and like to find the travel bugs in the caches. Some of the areas that the caches are located in are beautiful.

I went on one that took forever to find. It was over a mile and half on this path that took you all over the woods only to find that if we went backwards, we would have found it in like 15 minutes.

I didn't think about detecting these sights because a lot of them are in old Cemeteries or places that I am sure detecting is not allowed.

Rest assured that I will be bringing my detector with me from now on though. :)

I too love MD'ing and last fall while in the woods. . . looking for Barbers & Buffalos around big old trees. . . I found a TupperWare container full of cheap, plastic toys with a geo-cache note that says if you take something, then leave something in return. It was the beginning of my hunt so I didn't have any "finds" yet so I just left it there. It would have been kind of cool though to have left an old Cracker Jack prize from the 1930's. Oh well. . . :)

I've been geocaching for some years now and enjoy it a lot. Like MDing it gets you outdoors. Geocaching never gets you anything of real value, but it's the thrill of the hunt and the eventual find. Now that I'm into both, my wife will never see me on weekends anymore ;D

Not a bad way to spend time and it helps your woodsmen skills.

Done it a few times with a jeep group but stopped because it takes up valuble swinging time

That's interesting. I have a story about this geocaching thing. I was sitting in my car one day at a picnic area, reading the paper waiting for my wife to meet me for lunch. I saw this young guy pull up and park. he got out and went to a shelter that was on a hill side. I could see he went under and put something up in the rafters, got back in his car and left. Being a curious person I wanted to see what he stashed (I was thinking dope deal). I went under and in the rafters he had placed a plastic canister full of geocache stuff. I put it back and left it alone. HH!

Close! These places are in the Evansville area.

I and a few buddies have been wanting to get into this pretty bad, just waiting on the extra funds to buy a GPS...(if that ever happens)...

Start with http://www.geocaching.com and sign up (free). When it comes to buying a handheld GPS, nothing special is needed, but you will prefer one you can connect to your PC to download geocache coordinates quickly and easily. Check eBay, Craigs List, etc., for good deals on GPS units.

When you get on the web site, be sure and read all the rules about geocaching. Playing the game requires discretion and insight just like MDing.

LOL you have to watch out for the "Muggles". If you go to the site mentioned above you will know what I am talking about. ;)

in the woods say if you run across a civil war camp site or old homestead -- normally you leave the spot only to "lose it" and maybe never find it again -- but with a trusty gps unit --you can whip it out --lock down the site cords and you got the "location" for life . -- use the old noodle ;D

muggles are non geocachers "lurkers" who rip off , loot and destroy caches -- normally they see a cacher working a site and move in afterward looting the site -- stealing any trade goods and wreaking the cache in general .

I have been a geocacher for about six years. It alot of fun and will take you to areas that you never new existed even in your own home area.
