The gold ring, a nice 14K with a ruby, was a great find, but man-o-man when this silver 1917 French centimes coin came out of the hole I was (am) stoked!! My first foreign silver.

I bought a bunch of those 20 years ago and I swear you could get those for about .50 each back then. NOT anymore.

You have found a total of 24 rings or 24 rings this year??!!

Either way, that many gold rings is amazing.

Wow, nice finds, the coin reminds me of a Walking Liberty design, I'd be curious to know who designed your French coin?

Looks like you had a good outing. HH.

Evidently a French artist by the name of Oscar Roty. The wiki article is here, and it mentions the design. I also found this on another website:

Designed by Oscar Roty, a leading French Art Nouveau artist, this "sower" design silver 50 centimes (dime) coin is considered to be a classic Art Nouveau design. These were issued from the 1890s until the end of WWI. This one was made in 1917; during the war.

Seems likely a WWI soldier brought it back as a keepsake.

Crusader, I was thinking the same thing. No telling when the coin was originally lost; it could have been anytime, most likely late 19-teens, 20's, 30's... Not sure. This area I am hunting has produced US coins minted from 1881 (indian head pennies) and silver coins from 1907 and up. This one is a special find for me and makes me wonder who would have had it and lost it.

You beat me out on the silver, but yesterday I found my oldest coin yet in a yard in Arkansas. It was a 1864 Napoleon III French 9 Centimes. I believe that it is made of copper. I will post a picture very soon, but I was also wondering how it got there? It is half-dollar sized.

Sweet gold !

Great finds! Really nice ring congrats!
