Went out to the Maverick site today and only detected the site where the chimney still stands. I went to the soybean field behind the hay barn but found nothing. Decided to detect in front of the barn and found the wheaty(1929). Kinda hard to see. Went about 10 feet out and found the dime(1971). Went to where the outhouse still is and started to detect and got a got penny signal. Said it was about 4" down. Cut the plug and out popped a big copper. At first I thought it was a KG copper, boy was I wrong. Got home and started to clean it and seen the work Luck and then I knew it was a good luck token. Here are the pictuers and HH and Have a Great New Year.

that's a nice start to the new year, I'd look between where the outhouse was and the house

Or, you could look between where the outhouse is, and where the chicken-coop was.

That would be the most satisfying for the soul.

The thing is we dont know where the chicken coop was. we have an idea but not sure where it was. Thanks plehbah.

Thanks doug. I looked at the site but cant find it right now but ill still keep looking for it. Thanks again and see you later.

Chris,
You should go ahead and add your token to that site then.

Chris - I don't think it's just your typical "good luck" token. Have you tried searching "Lucky Mule Trace Chains"?
I have no idea (yet) what a "trace chain" is exactly, but I believe this was from the manufacturer.

Re: First finds of 2009 with my Prizm 4

Chris - found some interesting stuff on that "token"...

Taken from this link is the definition below:
http://www.lausd.k12.ca.us/Belmont_HS/mice/vocb2.html

"trace chains (n): the chains that connect a horse's harness to a vehicle."

Some interesting "reads":
http://books.google.com/books?id=tu...hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=10&ct=result

Here's a pic of a token like yours and a pic of an actual trace chain - this is probably the type of chain that you and I have been diggin' up all over the place... :P

Re: First finds of 2009 with my Prizm 4

Good way to start the year!!

Re: First finds of 2009 with my Prizm 4

Thanks NCJoe. Thanks DD-777. I did find out that the company(The Hodell Chain Company) was back in the late 1800's and merged with another company called National Screw and Tack. Here is the site.

http://www.hodell-natco.com/aboutus.asp

The pic that DD-777 posted was a later token that was put out. The words on the edge is The Chain Produce Company. Mine says The Hodell Chain Company. Will do some more looking for more info later. now its bed time. Good night and hh. Maverick29 AKA Chris

Thanks silverfreak. hh and have a great new year

Hey Guys and Ladies I wrote the company that the token had written on it and actually got a reply from them. This is from the main sales office from The Hodell Chain Company. Thanks

Hello Chris,

Thanks for sending pictures of the good luck token. We don’t have any of them around here – they date back quite a while. Not sure exactly what age they are, but I’m guessing they’re 100 yrs. old or more!

Thanks again,

Kevin Reidl

Hey everyone I Did a little research and found that the company that is on the token is still around in Cleveland Ohio.

Two respected Cleveland-based firms – Hodell Chain and National Screw and Tack – both begun in the late 1800s, together formed The National Screw and Manufacturing Company. The company provided the foundation for an entity known today as Hodell-Natco Industries. Among other products, National Screw produced standard and specialty fasteners, while its affiliated company, Hodell Chain, manufactured welded and weldless chain for industrial and hardware use.

I Emailed the sales office and got a repliy back from Kevin Reidl about the token.
