Today was my very first time metal detecting. Last night (at about 9pm) I purchased a Treasure Hunter 3019 from a local fellow that was selling it, cranked it up today and tried my hand for a few hours. No amazing finds, but great fun and a real learning experience. I did find $2.32 in clad, so I'm well on my way to paying off the detector The oldest of the bunch is a 1966 quarter.
The searching took place in the back yard, local beach along the lake and the grass playing area around there. Most of the clad was actually found buried in the field, with the deepest piece being about 6-7" down.
It was nice learning more about the detector throughout the day. I went from digging up everything that made a sound to using the "auto-notch" function, which eliminated all junk except for two pesky pull-tabs. I did find that I like using the "all-metal" function however, but that may be just because I still like to hear it buzz a lot
