I found myself with a couple hours free yesterday afternoon, so I grabbed my equinox and headed out. When I got to my first spot I could see goose hunters set up where I wanted to go. I was a little disappointed but I had another spot nearby and headed that way only to run into more goose hunters.....grr. I was running out of daylight so pointed the truck toward home. Then I remembered a new permission that had been deep plowed in the fall. I got there with an hour of daylight left. It was pretty rough walking but I set off on a 300yard loop hoping to find some signs of life for a future trip. There was some brick and pottery pieces where my research showed there were houses in the 1800s but I was getting very few signals... an old copper fuse cap, a couple alum arrow pieces and an old round ball. Less than 100yds from my truck and not far from where i dug the arrow pieces, I got a jumpy high tone....25-31. I almost didnt dig it thinking it was the top of a beer can. I am sure glad I did!!! I ran my pinpointer around the hole and out popped my first Spanish silver!! 1786 1/2 Reale!! Unfortunately, it looks like i scratched it with my shovel, but I still like it.
