We both got gold which is always nice
(see Whydah's on his post)
When you get these old brass bathing suit buckles = it's a good sign
(see my other posts or 2012 finds pics in my album)
I have gotten gold - and/or silver at spots where I have found these brass
buckles and beach tags
these are circa pre WWII - when war started out brass was saved for
bullet shells and other military items - so they stopped making these
so most of these are early 1900's = good sign

What were those round tags used for? I found one at a beach last year and thought it was old.

round tags are old beach locker tags - they used to put locker keys on them - so you had place to secure
your belongings - when people started to lose the tags with the keys - a lot of places would lock them for you - hang thekey and give you just a
tag - just like a coat check - you would then bring that back to them to get your stuff
they used brass from 1900 up till war broke out and then all brass went to the war effort
for bullet and artillery shell casings
some place went to wood - some plastic or even rubber
now a days they use those small brass keys with plastic knob where you put quarters in and turn
once again - I start finding these at an old fresh water or salt water beach - I perk up
cause I know i have the chance to find old coins and old gold

I see you were at one of those old spots again today, nice hunt.I'm a new engand hunter also.:leprechaun-hat:
