While relic hunting for pre Civil War camps I will occassionally stumble upon fur trade sites from time to time. Here are the results from last weekends dig. I would guestimate this site to be dated about 1830's-40's. I just wanted to say hi to everyone here on the forum. The posts on here are absolutely awesome and from a much earlier time period than mine. Look forward to learning as much as I can on this site. Thanks for looking!

I agree!I was fortunate to get one marked off of my list this year that I have been after for a very long time

Super button kuger ...good looking specimen!

I'll have to admit I have never seen one of those critters and do not think I will put it on my list, lol.

Chances of finding a NYL out here on the Plains would be pretty remote.

One never knows??

Kuger, I just figured something out...your a "button nut" just like me!!! LOL!!! The NYL button is stunning!!! :notworthy: In my neck of the woods I'm always on the lookout for a one-piece Dragoon button these are exceptionally scarce! Few weeks ago I thought I finally found a cuff sized one...ended up being a one-piece artillery button but I still remain optimistic that one will pop up someday!!!

IndianWarshunter,
The Voltigeurs button is a killer find!!! It's nice to find the rare and unusual. Take care my friend!

Right you are Steve........and Two Piece buckle :wink:I dont find a great number of buttons in the type of camps I hunt, but when one does pop up,it is usually a good one!I would like to find just one "D",or an "R",or as mentioned a "V"!!There was a detachment of Artillery, and Dragoons with the 1st New York, and the Voltiguers were here too,so they are out there!!The Dragoons were also very active in nearby Yosemite, the quell the Indians of that area.Several encampments have been located.Take care bud!
