Took some friends to a potentially good spot. A buddy has a 1900 farm house. Told them to hunt the front yard b/se i thought it would yield greatest potential. I told them to be methodic and thorough, while i tried for scraps. Well, the side yard and front had some pretty heavy EMI. The old dairy processing unit is now being used for a business and I think they brought in some heavy electrical.

Anyway, I start hitting the other areas and they are super hard, like concrete and super junky. They were complaining about EMI, and I told them that it's time to button up the sleaves and come to school. I explained that there is no perfect place to hunt. One of my buddies, a total newbie, listened and started gridding the very front of the yard. My other buddy, not so much. To his credit, he has been having issues with his detector.

Well, my buddy who was gridding dug a deeper hit and found an 1887 IH. It was by far the oldest coin he has ever found and he was super stoked. I was really happy for him. It was super hot and he is a little older and couldn't last. So, after he left, I went to work on the front yard. My other buddy was off doing who knows what.

All these finds were from the front.

They are both lucky to have a friend like you and to be offered to hunt on a great permission. That Barber is sweet. :occasion14:

thanks, generosity really comes back around a lot. It's not why I do it, but that has happened to me over and over. In fact, one of the guys told me about an old church baptismal site b/se of it.

I love Barbers. I also loved capped bust silver - but that one is still on my wishlist.

Its one way to get new people interested in history and this hobby. Congrats on the friendship hunt and the finds!
