Finds from a park (first wheat! first gold!)

After digging up tons of clad in several parks at around the 4" level and gleaning milk money beneath the slides at playgrounds I finally found something worth taking a picture of!

I found this wheat at 7", or so my DFX told me. After a wash in tap water it turned a little black so I thought I better stop scrubbing on it.

The pin I found at 8" between the roots of a huge oak tree. I'd like to think that it is gold and from the 1920s... because it's gold in color and has '1920' on the back. ;) Anyone familiar with American Legion Auxiliary pins?

I really ought to return to this park and see what else it holds. I'm still a newb with my DFX and can't help but feel that this park has been heavily hunted but I know there's at least plenty of bottle caps left for me to excavate!

Nice find/s,

the style of the "clasp" will give you a better idea on the age.

Congratulations on the first wheat! There will be many more.

Some places you have to dig through the clad to get the goods. This is good. Gives a newb practice. ;)

The DFX is a good machine. You just have to do a little more "tweaking" with it.
To get the most from the DFX you have to make mods or use something other than the Coins, Jewelry, Beach programs. I like to load the "Beach/Jewelry" program and then increase the preamp gain to 3 or 4. Increasing the preamp gain will give you better depth. The EEPROM deep silver program is good but can be a little unstable at times.
