With the weather being so nice (in the 60's) yesterday, Johnny Cache Hunter and I decided to hunt the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Our journey started around 8:00am and went until 10:00pm, this was most definitly our longest hunt ever.

We decided to cross the state along historic route 2 starting in Boston and going all the way to the New York Border. Along the way we stopped at rest areas, old schools, parks, along rivers, ponds and lakes and just about any other clearing we came across.

Johhny is better a descibing hunts than I , so I will leave the rest of this writing to him in his post to come and i will just show some pictures.

Here are my finds.

Sounds like you guys had a pretty good day DDos. I am always looking for that unbelievable find and it looks like you've done it. When people can't believe you dug something, you know you've done something extraordinary. Congrats.

DDos and Mr. Cache, if you said you dug it, you dug it! Dig it? ;) Nearly everytime someone has a good find someone will come on and say you didn't dig it. So, don't pay any attention to the ne'er do wells. I think sometimes they are kidding, but you never know. This is a great forum with some great people and I hope you don't take ever post too seriously. There's no reason you should have to justify your finds to anyone. If I have offended anyone else on the forum by my statements so be it. I get darn tired of some of the consistently negative remarks by so few. I am really easy to get along with and not easily ruffled, but this is just rude. :P Monty

Let's clear something up here...

1. It is never appropriate on an open forum to accuse someone of lying or posting bogus finds.

2. If you have absolute, incontrovertible proof that a member is doing so, either confront him by private message or notify a moderator.

3. Making any open accusation against another member is an excellent way to get your posts deleted or edited, and repeated misconduct of that kind can have far more serious consequences.

All members are entitled to respect, and are expected to accord the same respect to others.

Awesome day for it gentlemen. Love the buffalo. Some of the soils around here do seem to preserve and protect don't they. Does that little heart open? Glad you got out, next time you drive by stop in!

For what it's worth, and I suspect it won't be worth much as people will believe what they want to believe, I was standing beside him when ddos dug that nickel. What ddos didn't mention was that I had actually got the signal on the coin but couldn't seem to pinpoint it. I had actually dug a hole about two or maybe three inches from where he pulled out the nickel. I knew there was something in that area but my detector just wouldn't lock on to it. I called ddos over to where I was and asked him to try looking with his detector as he was using a different model than me and thought maybe it might help make difference. He scanned the general spot where I was looking and said that he was getting a hit just a little off from where I had dug. I was confident that the spot I had already looked was really where the hit was emanating from and so I said "well you can dig it" as I was tired and honestly figured he was wrong. He dug it and pulled it up in front of my eyes. I'll ask you to take a look at the picture I'm posting. It's a picture that shows a couple of the buffalo nickels I have dug in the past (not this trip). The one on the left came out of the ground and looks every bit as good as ddos's nickel (barring the date is missing on my nickel), the nickel on the right is what most of the other buffalo nickels I've dug look like. So what I guess I'm saying is, it can happen. I think what you guys are also not taking into consideration is the fact that he's washed and dried the nickel and taken a real nice close up picture of the nickel that actually flatters the coin a little bit, where as my scanner images I think take away a little from my coins.

In any case ddos, I'm happy for you in finding your first buffalo.
No need to explain yourselves.Nice finds guys!

some people just don't know what they are talking about, if the
ground has the right PH balance the coin will come out the way it
went in the ground!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I too live in mass and dug some coins
that looked like they were drop yesterday.
Hey think of it if you dug it off of rt 2 near the Rd do you think the
vibration off the Rd made it so clean? who knows who cares
NICE FINDS THERE

Sounds like a great road trip and some nice finds to top it off!

For what it's worth, as Mirage stated, I have dug some Buffs that came out looking great! Not the typical rusty corroded nickle color we all know and love! These BTW were just cleaned with a soft-bristle brass brush and not treated with Blue Magic. Mirage was right that I have used that polish with great results on Buffs before.

These Buffs all came from one day's hunt! One's a 1913 Type 1, another a 1917D
