Finding only clad got you down?...There's help...see photo

I use eBay.....and the last 60 dollars worth of clad I found here...I took to the bank and got "real" money for....and bought these coins for my "keeper" box. The postage was included in these purchases. Shop carefully, and buy what you don't find. It's not quite the same...and it takes longer...but these pieces of silver are mine now nonetheless.

I have a whole new perspective on finding clad.

It is a good use for clad, then you can make your purchases with free money.

Re: Finding only clad got your down?...There's help.

I use rechargeable batteries...so I don't need to buy those anymore...and I don't want to fill a nail keg with dirty clad.

Good Idea! I cashed in about 120.00 worth of clad last year. Paid some bills with it. Love your silver pieces!

Good tip Wyatt, I've been doing the same thing all year.
I just got my 1932-D quarter with found clad. ;D
Now to start saving it for my 1932-S 8)

Re: Finding only clad got you down?...There's help...see photo

I do the same too but buy slabbed graded coins. cladius.

Re: Finding only clad got you down?...There's help...see photo

Gee, Let's see! If everybody turns in their clad coins to buy old coins. Then....I would be the only one with a clad collection? Hmmmm...That would make my clad collection become very valuable!
Kidding aside, I think you got the right idea and with the clad I've found I might even be able to buy a buffalo nickel with a DATE showing.

Re: Finding only clad got you down?...There's help...see photo

so far i only have 25 bucks rolled i found. ?gonna put it towards a new detector, i think iv almost killed this one ;D

Re: Finding only clad got you down?...There's help...see photo

It'd be nice to find a buffalo nickel that you didn't have to use your imagination to see a buffalo on! The soil here just eats them alive. I've found 2....and they ain't nuthin' to write home about.

I have a "thing" about slabbed coins....not my cup of tea, exactly...too sterile I guess To each his own though. Point is...slabbed or raw, buying collectible coins with it is way better than storing a bunch of partially decomposed clad coins.

Will "dug" clad coins ever be worth anything?...not in my lifetime they won't.

I forgot to relate something about the picture. Everybody likes to spread eBay horror tales. Well, I have had exceptional experiences with eBay since I registered in 1996. Take for instance the 3 mercury dimes that are alongside the 3 walkers. You see that shiny one? It's not been cleaned....it's a 29 philly minted coin with most of the mint luster intact. I bought all 3 of those dimes for $3.99 and a buck postage. I just stuck a 5 dollar bill in the envelope. Easy come easy go. I paid cash for all of the coins (decided not to make the post office rich buying money orders...or waste time by writing my own checks) and I am happy to report that I didn't get stiffed once. Without exception, the sellers completed the transactions quickly and to my complete satisfation. They were all low dollar transactions, so the risk was calculated. I figured easy come easy go...who's going to risk their reputation for 5 ot 10 dollars?

The merc lot was a gamble (whoopee 5 bucks)....because the photo was of these 3 dimes, but the description read "average circulated condition"....I wonder how many 1929 mercs this guy has seen? I wouldn't consider AU to be "average circulated" at all. That one as well as the 27 in F and the 28 in VF, all 3 went into my album.

Great idea. I sometimes go to the flea markets and purchass an ocassional silver, but I assume now that maybe I can get better deals on e-bay.

Re: Finding only clad got you down?...There's help...see photo

You can get good buys on eBay if you're careful...or if you have more clad accumulated and can buy the more expensive "lots" of coins. The loose 1906 Barber half was 8 dollars ppd.....the 26-S Peace Dollar 10.00 ppd. I think I made some nice buys.

It also helps to know how to grade coins...especially the Barber series coins. Most folks overgrade, but occassionally, you'll find an honest, conservative grader selling. That's the guy you want to deal with.

It looks like we both have the same game plan.

I went nuts & bought a coin listed as only "United States one cent" today off ePay.

The only scan pictured the reverse of a Low grade LARGE Cent !! Paid a whole 6 CENTS + $1 S&H for it !! Can't wait to see if the obverse even has a date on it. 6 Cents ..... even on my worst day of detecting, I can cover that. ;)

Let us know how it goes.......I'd be interested.

???
Yeah, i buy coins, too, and have bought a lot of EBay. I have a large
coin collection and love collecting coins. Heck, if ya have to collect something,
might as well be money, right? ;D

I'm also the president of a coin club where i work at. It amazes me sometimes
to hear folks put down EBay as a place to buy coins. They say things like they
only buy from dealers they know in real life cause dealers and sellers on EBay only
sell their junk on there. Oh really? I've bought a ton of slabbed coins from EBay,
lots of raw coins also, but i trust the coins i get that are from some of the grading
parties. What makes them junk when certed by NGC or PCGS? I just laff to myself
knowing the same coin he bought from a dealer at book value, i can get online for
half or less of book! To me, a coins value is only what you're willing to pay for it!
Besides, more deals for me for the folks that refuse to use EBay! :)

Re: Finding only clad got you down?...There's help...see photo

I'm not a real "serious" coin collector, but I do like some coins, especially the gold ones (yeah, I know, who doesn't??? LOL).

We have an auction house here that once in a while has coins up for bidding. I've found the best thing to do is to head to the auction house the day before, see if there's anything that tweaks my interest, write it down, then head home and research it on eBay. Almost all of the coins at the auction house have been on eBay, so that gives me a drop dead price (if it's an exceptional coin, I'll also factor in the shipping and handling from eBay) after which, I stop bidding. Only thing is, the auction house puts a 10% "buyer's premium" on everything you buy....which means they charge 10% over your winning bid. >:( But whenever I can get a quality gold coin or larger silver coin for 20% less than spot price for either silver or gold, what the heck??? Right? Sometimes there's either coin dealers or silly collectors (silly collector=someone who HAS to have the coin, no matter what price they have to pay) and they run the prices way up. So it's nice to know what the coin can be had for from eBay. (Makes me wonder if these folks do any research before going to the auction???)

Anyway, treasure is where you find it...in the ground, at the flea market or at the auction house.

HH, ya'll.
