If the weather permits I would like to go back now that the ground is wet .since we have been detecting the site it has been dry the whole time especially the deep targets..Now that the ground is very wet the signals will be much different I believe.....Keep on Digging......John

Re: Finding 2 Old Cellar holes ,While searching for something else

This may well be the "shark pit" of dry? land!? Finest finds I have seen on the forum in a long time.? May be the find of your life so enjoy every minute of it!?You should build you a screening box and dig out those cellar holes.? To find the property owner you will need to go to the County seat and look it up on the plat maps.? Once you know the legal description you can go to the Tax? Assessor and find the owner.? Excellent!? Monty

We will try to get back sometime this weekend pending the weather situation....Keep on Digging!!!! seeker

Re: Finding 2 Old Cellar holes ,While searching for something else

Seeker, congratulations on the dream site. That must have been a trading post or tavern with all the coins you're finding.

Awesome!

Re: Finding 2 Old Cellar holes ,While searching for something else

Nice finds. What signs other than depressions in the soil tip you off to an old cellar hole?

Well done "The Treasure Seeker" those are some really old coins that you found. If only they could talk... I think that you are going to find a couple more cellars and have to spend the whole of next year going through them..... Pinch yourselve to make sure you are not dreaming, then enjoy the venture.

alot of great fines there,,, good work

Re: Finding 2 Old Cellar holes ,While searching for something else

Umm wonder about the coins with the holes..... was it a fad to wear coins around one,s neck in them days... I thought this was a thing that has only gone on for a shortish period of time. I thought in them days money was hard earned, and spent wisely, not like today.

I have read that here in North America during the fur trade years that it was common for native americans to take trade tokens, which are similar to coins( and perhaps coins) make a hole in them, string them together and wear them as necklaces as a status symbol rather than trade them for goods with the fur trade companies.
