Find On Old Family Property

I found this on my family's property in South Georgia. There are ties to the Civil War and and the Brunswick-Florida (pre-civil war)/Brunswick-Albany (post-civil war) Railroad runs through the property. I think this might be a belt buckle. I think the letters visible are ST C. Anybody seen one of these before, or have any ideas? Thanks in advance?

With the hole for attachment, it might be a name plate off of something, possibly a grave headstone, something like that.

Looks to me like a little like the hilt of a sword .Is it bent back any or flat on the back?

Although I can't see the lettering you mentioned, the "St C" makes me wonder if it's part of a St.Christopher plaque. In case you aren't familiar he was the patron saint of safe travel, and can be seen in this google search: antique st christopher plaque - Google Search
