Find On Old Family Property

I found this on my family's property in South Georgia. There are ties to the Civil War and and the Brunswick-Florida (pre-civil war)/Brunswick-Albany (post-civil war) Railroad runs through the property. I think this might be a belt buckle. I think the letters visible are ST C. Anybody seen one of these before, or have any ideas? Thanks in advance? find.jpg
 

With the hole for attachment, it might be a name plate off of something, possibly a grave headstone, something like that.

Could you post some other pics; the back and profile. I see the "S" but not the other letters.

Looks to me like a little like the hilt of a sword .Is it bent back any or flat on the back?

Breezie and Coily, thanks for asking for a picture of the back. The site doesn't seem to want me to upload an image right now. As soon as everything's working again, I will upload an image of the back.
