It rained quite a bit in Southeast Missouri on Friday. I slept in this morning (Saturday) and by the time I got up, it was beautiful out. The high was 70 degrees and the ground was nicely saturated. I grabbed my gear and headed out to a location that was a known civil war imcampment. The only problem is it's too well known for this. It has been absolutely hammered over the last few years. The homeowner said many years ago her kids picked up 3 ringers off the surface of the yard and she knew belt plates and other noteable finds had been taken out of there.

I hunted this place about a year ago with Mastereagle, and only found rusty nails here and there . I set out today with the notion that I would find a bullet. I changed some settings on my machine and was kinda fighting with it. After about 30 minutes I was getting more comfortable with these new settings. After digging about 7 or 8 marginal signals, I had an iffy signal that was jumping from 85 to 39 and back to 00 randomly. I dug the hole and about 4 inches down I located a rusty nail. I persisted in the hole and recovered another rusty nail. I checked the hole and kept getting wierd signals. I stuck with the idea that these nails were not responsible for the high tone. My persistance paid off when I saw the point of what appeared to be a bullet. I said over and over....Oh my god, Oh my god and when I saw the rings, I was elated. I wish I had found something more, but one good keeper made my day. Thanks for reading!

BTW: I found a ring pull tab at 7 inches, so there are bound to be more viable signals in that yard!

This was totally encapsulated in a clod, so I guess someone had started carving on this. See the cut line?

The base is concave, but unfortunately, no marks inside.

Does anyone know anything about this kind of bullet? I appreciate any information.

Thanks, Baldingboy
