Hi gang,

Jeff and I hit the old house in Yellow Springs and after we turned our M6 gain way up we started getting hits. These silver coins are ALL firsts for me and four wheats. I usually only find one wheat per 6 months.

Today I found:
2- Standing Liberty Quarters 1926, 1929
1-Barber dime, 1903
1- Merc dime from Friday (shown here) 1917
2- neat car medallions
4 Wheat pennys one a 1909

This is the best day for me every in coins. I never thought I would find anything like this. I finally feel like a treasure hunter WOOHOOO!!

JEff found
1- 1903 Indian Head cent
1-1862 British Penny (in OHIO? Woooh)

You got a bit of everything there! Nice fob and people don't usually find two Standing Quarters, especially both with dates!

congrats Terry! Now you have alot of things to show off while Jeff is showing off that silver dollar he found in that parking lot........ great digs.... only hit 1 SLQ and I slightly scratched it.. course is was 8 1/2" deep, but the trustly XLT hit it....... the V Nickles are fun to find...... fairly hard to find in Ohio... I have hit as many shield nickels as V's....... one each last yr and this... alot of silver for one hunt......you guys are doing great! As for the British coin... I have found all kinds of foreign coins in Ohio.... oddest to me.. was this Chinese coin.... it was 4" in the middle of a cow field LOL Just hit the house again.... going slow.... very slow.. grid it off..... then dig all the "iffy" signals.... you will dig alot of deep nails.... but will also hit some more nice keepers......... your knees may end up being a lil more sore, but your pockets will be a lil heavier too LOL

SKD,
It's a V nickel, Awsome hunt especially not one bot two dated SLQ's unbelieveable. U rock. HH

Congrats on your "firsts"!! There is a Park in Yellow Springs near a small college I pulled a few Mercs from near the basketball court...you might want to try there!! Only hunted it once but came away with three Mercs and a dozen wheats...only covered a VERY small portion of that Park!! Those SLQ's are really nice coins!!

Ford Shows 1933:

While many think that Ford Motor Company’s brass coins that were created for the 1933 Detroit and New York Auto Shows were also part of the 1933 Chicago Worlds Fair, they were not. The probable link between the Fair and the coins is that they all carried 1933 on them. While the Fair used ‘A Century of Progress’, Ford used ’Thirty Years of Progress’. The Detroit Show opened on October 21, 1933 in the Detroit Convention Hall. Its theme was to celebrate the ‘Thirty Years of Progress’ that the Ford Motor Company had accomplished since its founding. It was a free show and was held over for a second week. Over 1.1 million people came to see the free entertainment. The New York ‘Thirty Years of Progress’ show opened on December 9, 1933, at the Port Authority Building and ran for one week.

Ford was at Detroit and New York, but not Chicago. The Detroit Ford Exposition brass coin has the 1933 car grille with Ford script in the middle and 1903 and 1933 on one side. The obverse has the V-8 in the center and the words Thirty Years of Progress around the edge. It is approximately 1 ¼ inches in diameter. The New York Ford Exposition brass coin is only 1 1/8 inches in diameter and has the Ford Oval with the words Thirty Years of Progress around the edge on one side and the V-8 and 1903 and 1933 on the other. Presumably, these coins were handed out for free during the shows, and they cause a lot of sellers to think that Ford was at the 1933 Chicago Worlds Fair.
