I took advantage of the spring like weather and decided to check out a new spot I've been researching. It was only about 30 drive from my house, but when I got there, there was no access. I decided to hit a small playground/baseball field which was near the spot. Being next to power lines my Deus was going bonkers so I turned up to 18mhz freq (knowing I would loose some depth). I spend the first hour working the far end without much success (only 1917 wheatie), but 1917 is good range to be for silver. Glad I stuck it through. As I began to walk the side closer to the road I got a clean high tone. A green disk appeared and that Christmas-morning gift feeling rushed over me.
All I saw was horse head, and I knew what it was.
A 1786 NJ copper! My bucket list coin, thank you!
I gently wrapped it up and put it in my significant finds holder.
About 30 mins later another large coin appeared, 1774 KG. Followed by a 1923 Merc.
I was planning on an all day hunt, but these finds put such a smile on my face that I decided to take the rest of the day off and treat myself to good dinner.
Here are few images:
I know there are multiple variations of the 1786 NJ copper, if anyone can point me in the right direction to better ID it's variety, I'd much appreciate it. I gently washed it in Distilled water and put it away. It has some nice details, so I'm debating on getting it professionally cleaned/restored (any suggestions)?
Thanks for looking team! Happy Happy hunting
