Last day in Southern Arizona at my parents house, which means I have to pack my metal detector away. I finally found a square nail out there, along with lots of stuff I didn’t keep. I’ve probably found 10 of the long piece of rounded off iron identical to this one. It has three holes for nails and is about 4 1/2 inches long. The larger piece with the flower shape on top is made of copper.
I’m sad to leave, I could spend all day everyday out there looking for history. I also appreciate all of your insight and wisdom as I am never able to identify much of what I pull out of this land.

Apple Valley, kinda the middle of nowhere.

Yeah that is a tough area without having to drive quite away's, although you have up at big bear lake and arrowhead If the water is down the shore lines can give up some goodies. If you do a little researching you should be able to find some older areas up that way also If I remember right there is an old town up there somewhere that was abandoned. Google abandoned towns around your area there are quite a few.

Middle of nowhere!?!? Not anymore! From I15 go East on Happy Trails put to the area around high rd. That is at the edge of where there were a lot of homestead or desert rat cabins. The best areas were to the west, but those got covered by Apple Valley spreading. We used to put lawn chairs on top of the RV & plot interesting stuff using binoculars. Funny thing was we'd go looking for relics and end up spending all our time filling the back of the RV with bottles. An almost relative of mine bought out there back in the early 80s, sold his place in 2002 with the profit and bought a place down in Orange. Keep your eyes on the washes, tons of goodies to be found. Even though everythings sprawled out you're in a good area. If you don't mind driving a little hop over to Lucerne! Around hwy 18 & hwy 247 go south towards the hills. beyond the RR tracks there was a ton of mining going on with a lot of mines going down 400' or more. There's still a lot of abandoned homesteads out there. You just got to work around the trash.Don't feel left out! You're in a very interesting (& profitable) area. Oh! if interested I can put you on a real nice hot springs over by Lucerne.

Thank you! It doesn’t take much to get me excited since I’ve never found anything more than bullets, pottery, and iron relics out here. Niagra Falls, I’ve always wanted to see that. :love1:

Villagenut posted the correct ID for the copper "larger piece with the flower shape on top"... as its finder described it. Let me be the first to say thank-you for that ID. I did not recognize the object. Being made of copper, it is definitely for Outdoor usage.

Apple Valley, cool my dad (85-88), my in laws (86-92) and my wife and I (86-88) were all stationed at George AFB, wow that was a long time ago. Still have friends in Apple Valley and the surrounding areas. Last time I saw the area was when I was on leave in July 91 when our second son was born.

Had a awesome time exploring the desert and going places, when we were stationed there.
