I filed a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau about a month ago with issues I ran into at a US Bank branch. After about a month, I finally was contacted and this is what I was told:

This is what I wrote to the CFPB:

So for filing a complaint about being charged for money, I get my account suspended. Also an FYI, I did return coins there after they started to charge me, but did not dump when I was having them as a pickup bank. Also the mention of $300 4 -6 times a month is completely false as I do not travel there that often in a month. Also asking if the box was brand new coins and trading in for others that weren't brand new is true, however the teller had told me in advance they were new and I asked if I could get circulated and if they didn't have them that was fine. The bank obviously knew what was going on, and only than did I decide to dump on them after being charged $.15 a roll for Cents or nickels (before I started halves).

I had my Father talk to a Branch Manager he knows well and she is going to get back to him. From what she describes it is very unlikely my account could be prevented from being terminated, even if I did not use them for coins. I have not been to this bank branch since August, and just now they are choosing to do this. I have been cashing in amounts of coins, once or twice a week, at a different branch under my account and expierenced no issues.

Currently awaiting response from the Branch Manager regarding this. I will still use US Bank as my Dump bank as my Father is an account holder and the bank I cash in at takes dumps from another CRHer too.

This is what America is coming to. We bail the banks out yet they can't trade paper for coins. I plan to take $1000.00 (YES ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS) of Brand new 2012 Pennies to this branch directly to the teller who started all of this, and pay my $1 fee and show her my appreciation.

What do you plan on doing when they refuse to let you dump $500 in pennies on them?
Are you going to create a scene in the bank?

YOU messed up and the bank beat you, and by complaining YOU screwed your father as well.
You won't win this.
You can't win this.
Acting childish and creating a scene in a bank isn't a smart idea.
In the end you will lose...again.

Just let it go.
There are more important things in life.

Improvise, adapt, and overcome. This is but a small setback, only made large due to whining. Man up and move on.

May seem harsh, but that is the only advise I know to give. Good luck.

You know, if they give you trouble about dumping cents that I have the perfect ending statement to drop on them.

Life is full of complete bull, it's all about getting thick skin. there are some wars you can't win. Just sit back at laugh at how lame they are, and how much more independently wealthy you'll be than all the tellers if you continue to pursue your entrepreneurial pursuits and invest in the right commodities. I mean really, their letter is so completely ridiculous you almost have to laugh.

I once worked at a pizza shop that a guy came in all pissed and threw the pizza over the counter at us then came behind it like he was gonna beat us up or something. That man didn't get arrested, but he got in a severe sleeper hold by the smallest pizza cook we had

I say dump the cents, if you pay the fee you are playing by their rules.

FYI

To the people who can't read, my Dad IS NOT mad at me about what happened. He is as frustrated with the bank as I am. We planned to change banks anyway.

Can we all agree that this is unwarranted, at least? I want to give Mr. Schulz the benefit of the doubt here...

No, it wasn't unwarranted. Mr. Shultz clearly stated that he had his dad making inquiries on his behalf, and that he was going to keep using that bank because his dad still had an account there. As I have been reading this thread I was wondering how long it was going to take for his dad's account to get shut down as well.

My account is still open until November 16th. I can cash in any amount of coin for $1 so I will do that service.

A lot of veterans on this board giving advice, you may wish to heed it. You may indeed be able to cash in any amount of coin for $1. However, you keep making waves at that bank, and they may well file that suspicious activity report, which will likely cause more problems for you and your family. Bottom line, I'd cut all ties with the bank, and not push your luck.

I'll concede that point - I didn't realize that from what I read, but I still believe in giving the kid the benefit of the doubt. The thing that bothers me, when it comes down to it, is that he's basically saying the bank is being untruthful about what he and his father have done to warrant account closure. That right there is wrong. If we are to believe Schulz's story (which I'm guessing some people aren't - again, I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt there), then we're talking about a bank that did a pretty crappy thing. No surprises there, I guess, and I don't contest that it is technically their right to do so, but having the right to do something does not make it right. A lot of folks seem to be either taking the bank's side, or letting them off the hook completely. Can we try to give the kid a little more support here? I know he's angry and foolhardy in some respects about the way he's going about things (I'm sorry to be harsh, Schulz, but I believe that to be true). However, it's understandable given the circumstances - heck, I would probably have reacted similarly at his age! Let's give the kid a break- I guess that's what I'm trying to say.

That being said, they're right to advise you to let this go, Schulz. You risking a harder time down the road, not just for you but possibly for your father as well, if you follow through with your penny dump. Ask yourself if it's really, truly worth it...

It's like filing a lawsuit against your employer, you should be smart enough to know they are going to terminate your employment when you do, so it better not be over something trivial......

Lesson learn is you pick your battles, dont cut off your nose to spite your face..... Anyone who thinks they can file a complaint against their bank and not suffer conquences is not thinking at all..............
