On Sunday, I got back to a field that I’ve detected 3 times already. I knew today was going to be another hot one, so I arrived at 5:30am. This was an early homesite that was settled sometime around 1830 – 40. My first find was the 1914 LC, a decorated cuff-button, iron harness buckles and a bunch of old iron from the house.

I then decided to head to one of my go-to sites, an old schoolhouse where the site has a long history. I only managed to last 30mins here, but I found a 1969 Canadian One Dollar coin. I only missed it being silver by 2-years.

Over the years the school had been rebuilt and extended several times. In 1890 a one-room schoolhouse was erected, and in 1915 another one-room school building was built to accommodate the overflow from the first school. When the enrolment reached one-hundred pupils in 1923, the School Trustees held a meeting and noted the need to once again expand their facilities. The new building was to be two storeys, made of brick with four classrooms and have an estimated cost of $25,000. The school, complete with a basement, was ready in 1924, but only three classrooms were necessary for the next ten years. Another addition was built in 1956 and contained four classrooms and a Kindergarten.

Thanks for looking,
Dave

Looks like a great variety of finds.
Thanks TH, the finds here have been an interesting mix, as the years of occupation here were short. :icon_scratch:

Good finds! Old schools are some of the best spots.
Hi Tony, it's been a while my friend. :hello:
I'm going to head back again this Sunday, as all of my fields are planted now.

Beats workin’ !
Beats being at home with the wife on a Sunday morning! :laughing7:

Very Cool!!! Congrats!!!
Thanks Randy!

You always have the best research Dave.. and the hunts are always informative.. Good score on the dollar coin.. even if it is not silver

Micheal
Hi Micheal!
When I saw the rim of this coin in the dirt, all I could think was... did I actually find my first CDN Silver Dollar coin?
Even if it's not silver, it's only the second pre-1970 One Dollar coin I've found.

Hope you're doing well my friend, miss you guys!

I like the history and the finds. I could see myself being excited by such a situation.
However, "beats work?" I think it's pretty hard work swingin' and diggin', especially in the heat. Maybe work in an air-conditioned building would be preferable at least until it cools?

Yoiu did real GOOD :) Thanks for sharing with us :)

Thank you for your detailed comments on my finds and post. Yes, it's been hard to think about anything except the heat these past few weeks. Thankfully it's a lot cooler today here in Southern Ontario. Unfortunately, I travel a lot with my job, so I'm usually either driving or flying to meet with my dealers.
Hope you're having a good year!

Thank you Sir! :icon_salut:

Nice finds and great background on the school! Thanks! Congratulations!
Thanks Arfie. I'm debating whether to head back to the school tomorrow or on Sunday morning as the weather is supposed to heat up again by the weekend.
Hope you're doing well.
