feeBay stabbed us in the back AGAIN

I, too, was disappointed to read about the new ebay rip off.

I have never gouged on shipping...and I sell quite a bit there. I try to make a 40 cent margin on each package I ship, which pays for the shipping materials, etc.

I'm strongly considering raising my shipping costs to cover the new rip off fees.

Ebay has the buyers and the traffic, but I still can't believe that a giant like Google or a tiny little start up hasn't given them some competition recently. It is going to take tons of advertising to make a serious attempt at competing with ebay, but it would work.

The way I understand it - is that, if you raise your shipping fees, the more they charge you. Is that right? It seems lot a "tail-chasing", and not good for sellers or customers.

PS I saw an auction where the item was $1.00 and the shipping was around $20.00. Other items like it were around 19.00 and 3.00 shipping. So the first one was cheaper and the seller only paid fees on the $1.00. feeBay should go after sellers like that, not everyone that does it right.

Agreed. I've seen many "buy it now" auctions where you can buy something for 4.99, but you're charged $50+ to ship it, knowing that the actual shipping cost is only a very small fraction of that charge. So, instead of spending the time and effort of going after these sellers individually, EBay is "forced" to change their policies to include all sellers. It sucks, but that's what happens when people try and scam the system.

My GF fell for that scam. Bought an acoustic guitar (Very cheap quality) for $0.99 and it was something like $50.00 to ship it. Ive seen alot of them like this.

There are a lot of Iphone 4 auctions going on that look like they are going extremely cheap until you look and see $500 shipping. :angry1:

I've reported several of them. Ebay should give one warning then revoke those sellers accounts. It isn't about protecting themself from sellers like those, it's about the never ending corporate need for increasing profits and revenue.

I am NOT an Ebay seller, but I have been buying on there for many years. If I may interject some of my common sense logic from a buyer's perspective to this......if the overall price meets my "expected to pay" level I buy, if it doesn't I don't. However, when I compare items, I do immediately remove rip-off shipping amounts from my list of potential sellers. In other words if someone wants to charge $10.00 to send a DVD or book I am looking for I won't even follow their auctions, I just move on to the next seller.
Ebay is a great place to do business but I agree 100% that a good competitor would help all those who sell gain leverage against this type of fee grabbing.

Good luck!!

BEND OVER AND GRAB YOUR ANKLES!!!
EBAY IS ABOUT TO GIVE YOU A GOOD HOSING.......AGAIN!

Sounds kinda like extortion to me.
Get a "store" for 15.95 / mo. or we will slap you with a bunch of fees to make you go away.
Ebay doesn't want the small sellers anymore. They're too much trouble to maintain.
This is their way of driving out the small folks.

I had a guy build me a site.
Haven't put anything into it yet, but I guess NOW is a good time.

Well, at least that explains why both of the "stores" we had here went out of business.

They were stores that would take your items for you and put them on Ebay (they put up the ads, did the shipping, etc.).

Guess that is THE reason why they closed their doors.

Don't know if this is everywhere, but in Pa they was/are making the people who have/had EBay stores get a auctioneers license.. so yes they would have to go to auctioneer classes.... (either the state or the us goverment not Ebay is making them)

That figures. Pa has some strange laws for auctions. Always have. You cannot even advertise an auction in the newspaper without putting a
valid auctioneer license number.

Free-er and free-er, that's our society.

Pretty soon, we will have have to be rich in order to afford to make some money. ???

People like to complain about ebay every time they make a fee structure change. Truth is, they have some of the lowest fees out there. This change to now charge for shipping has been a long time coming because its a loophole that people abuse. What isn't mentioned here is they lowered the final value fee to 11% from 12% for store owners. 11%. I pay close to that in sales tax.

That's one of their ploys to get people to "open" a store. For someone like me that only lists 20-40 items a month (at most) it's not really worth it. As for "some of the lowest fees out there" well, that's not hard to say considering they don't really have any worthy (online) competition yet, and for the competition they do have, they all have lower fees but they just don't have the traffic yet which is what I mean by "worthy". Personally I hope Ebay ends up biting off the hand that feeds them, it will serve them right.

Has anyone read the new rules?? I was upset at first but after I read them it isn't to bad... There are 50 free auctions you can post in one month an have any start price you like an free buy it now with it.. if you have another site to post pics from you won't pay for pics ( not sure if the free auction includes ebay pics) they will charge 9% of final cost with shipping included.. that doesn't sound to bad.. it could be alot worse....

I did a quick read so I may have missed something. But now that you mention 9% overall fees, why would they charge "stores" 11%? Is 00midwest mistaken?

I haven't sold in quite some time but I have a vintage Skilsaw in metal box due to end in 4 days. So far they only charged me 70 cents for the 4 pictures. I'll let you know how it turns out.
