More BS from the bay. >:(

I just got an email from them saying we now get 50 listing a month for free.

Sounds good right? Get ready for the knife.

They are now going to charge final value fees on shipping charges.
Does it hurt when they twist the knife?????????????????????????

There are many times I sell a $5-6 item and the shipping is $7-9 or more.

They say they are doing this to encourage sellers to charge less for shipping. This is a business. I am not going to lose money on shipping just to make feeBay feel better.

Whenever I bid I always take into consideration my bid + ship charges. If I do not like the total, I move on. I guess most buyers can't do that so feeBay thinks they have to hold the buyers hands and make the experience nicer for them. I am stuck using feeBay, no one else is around.

Any body else want to continue my rant?

I have sold a few things on ebay. You're right, they have got out of hand with fees. I started out on ebay in 98. was a cool place then, not so much now. i sold two machines on there last year, after everthing was done, cost me 85.00 dollars. Get a charter membership and do some selling and trading here. I still like shopping there.

Good Luck

Craigslist is good for selling too, and they are everywhere.

Cyber Dan, I have a rant but not about what your ranting about... I got a email few month ago saying that they pulled my auction!! reason because I used the word in style of Hummel.. I actually called them an the lady told me that it is against ebay rules to use a copyright name in your auction if it isn't a orginal item from that company.... that is some real bullsh........

you hit the nail on the head.

They have taken over the auction scene & know it, so they do what they want.

I don't have the money , but someone should start another auction site an you put the your auction on for free an the auction site charges 5-10% of your final .. that would be the only fee

After feeBay sticks you, on international shipments you get to pay the currency conversion charge from paypal too. The total from feeBay and paypal was about 11% for my last one. Fortunately they don't calculate the shipping, so I was able to charge that one right.

PS I saw an auction where the item was $1.00 and the shipping was around $20.00. Other items like it were around 19.00 and 3.00 shipping. So the first one was cheaper and the seller only paid fees on the $1.00. feeBay should go after sellers like that, not everyone that does it right.

Yahoo had free auctions and still couldn't win against ebay. The fees started really getting out of hand when they went public and have shareholders to answer to.

Ebay starting going down the tubes when Yahoo stopped having auctions. It was the only thing, I think, that was keeping their fees in check.

Also, Ebay has a policy about sellers charging for their listing fees, and a lot of sellers stick that fee into "shipping" charges. That's partly their
way of handling that issue. The less you charge for shipping, the less you pay.

Agreed. I've seen many "buy it now" auctions where you can buy something for 4.99, but you're charged $50+ to ship it, knowing that the actual shipping cost is only a very small fraction of that charge. So, instead of spending the time and effort of going after these sellers individually, EBay is "forced" to change their policies to include all sellers. It sucks, but that's what happens when people try and scam the system.

While i may agree with to many fees . But if you where to open a retail front for your items you would be paying a whole hell of alot of fees . Its sounds like ebay is tring to get those that are imbedding there profit or cost into shipping with isnt part of ebays fee system . It may hurt the honest sellers but it stops the dishonest sellers in there tracks and fixes the market some . There are several ebay style sites out there . And there are boards and other places you can list your items . Here are some small sampling of numbers to look at that i deal or dealt with or where quoted for other options to ebay . Any one got other numbers or options feel free to chime in .

Fleamarket - $29 to set up + gas weekly ( this varies by fleamarket )
Church sales - $5-40 a spot
garage sale - No fees ( low ballers and not max profit )
craigslist - no fees ( I did good on furniture but was low balled )
consignment shop - around 40-60% total sold not profit
antique shop - $500-1000+ a month not to mention insurance power cc machine (5% if i remember right )
antique shop booth - $50-100 a week
auction house - 50-70% fee
Newspaper - minor to free listing fees
Trade rags - major or minor listing fees
Own web site - ? cheap to expensive long term possibly a good option for ppl .
other ebay style sites ? i dont know much about these . esty would be the only one i have browsed and that was as a buyer .

Here's the message sent to me by Ebay. I do not currently have a "Store" Still not sure if its worth it? I am more of a seasonal seller. Maybe someone that does can let me know if it is.

Seller fee update coming this spring:

Subscribe to an eBay Store for as low as $15.95 per month to keep your current low fees.

We know that online buyers pay attention to the total cost of an item--including shipping--when deciding what and where to buy. To encourage low-cost shipping, starting July 6 Final Value Fee rates for sellers with a Store subscription will be reduced for both Auction-style and Fixed price listings and applied to the total amount of the sale--including shipping.

The good news for you: Thanks to your low shipping charges, if you subscribe now to an eBay Store for as low as $15.95 per month, your overall fees will be about the same or even lower than they are today.

Starting April 19, for sellers without a Store subscription, the Standard Final Value fee rate for Auction-style listings will not change, but will be applied to the total amount of the sale--including shipping. The number of free Auction-style listings per month will be capped at 50, with maximum Final Value Fee of $100.

So based on your recent selling activity, whether you prefer selling Auction-style or Fixed Price, an eBay Store is the right choice for you to keep your overall fees about the same or lower than they are today.

Subscribe now--before April 19--to an eBay Store. For as low as $15.95 per month you'll get all the great benefits that come with a Store subscription, including discounted Insertion Fees for Fixed Price, low Auction-style Insertion Fees, FREE pictures, and powerful Store marketing tools. And best of all, your overall fees will be about the same as they are today. To pay even lower fees than you do now, consider ways to reduce your shipping charges.

New eBay Shopping Cart
Online shoppers are accustomed to adding items to a shopping cart--and they're often motivated to buy more. That's why we're introducing the new eBay Shopping Cart that works with both Fixed Price and Auction-style items. Buyers can add items from multiple sellers and pay in one easy checkout--making it easier and more likely for them to buy more. It will become the way to shop on eBay before the 2011 holiday season.

New communications hub
Starting in May, you'll be able to manage your communications with buyers from just one location within My eBay. View the emails that eBay sends to buyers after a transaction, manage your buyer-facing Automated Answers, or access your Store newsletters--all from one convenient page.

Category and item specifics changes
Category and item specifics changes are also consolidated with rest of updates. Find out if your listings are impacted.

For more insight, you're also invited to:

* Talk with members of my staff during the next two days on a special discussion board we've set up for this purpose.
* Join me and other leaders from eBay in a Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, March 16.
* Take part in the upcoming webinar on Thursday, March 17.

As always, thank you for selling on eBay.

Sincerely,
Dinesh Lathi

Great list of "options" Thanks
My only question is on the "auction house" fee?? Fees here are usually 10-15% for the seller. I know there is an auction house somewhere in state that charges a % based on sale price (high price=less %). Buyer pays an additional buyers premium that varies at auction houses.
I have done well selling some things there, others not so good. Furniture really stinks to sell there, generally. Coins always sell well.

I did some digging yesterday and found this site called BooCoo Auctions at: https://www.boocoo.com

No listing fees and 6% final value fee on item sold only. (and if the item sells for over $1000 no fees on anything over that 1000) They come right out and give a direct email address if you have suggestions. They have only been in business since last June. I have already registered and want to try them out.

Anybody hear any bad press on them?

I got to "live chat" for 10 min and got a lot of questions answered and he even gave me a real phone number to call if I had other questions. Do you think that will ever happen on the BAY?

I listed my first auction with them already to try them out. It is a book I wrote to buy gold and silver at yard sales. https://www.boocoo.com/auction/detail.asp?id=140018 Sold several on feebay already.

I guess i'll have to raise my shipping prices to compensate for being raped by ebay.

I think i'm gonna have to give ETSY a try. Most of my items would fall into the vintage catagory anyway.
You can only sell items that fall into these three catagories-

Handmade - Goods handmade by you.
Supplies - Commercial and handmade crafting supplies.
Vintage - Items 20 years or older

Here are their terms-

20 cents for each item listed
If I list one ceramic mug, it costs 20 cents. If I have three of the same mug and put them all in the same item listing, it costs 60 cents. After four months if the item does not sell out it is unlisted and you may easily relist it if you like (at the same price).

3.5% sales fee
When you make a sale on Etsy, you will be charged 3.5% of the total sale price. This percentage does not include the shipping price.

Paying fees
All Etsy fees are paid using either the credit card you put on file when you sign up as a seller, or via PayPal. Each month we add up all your fees, and on the last day we send you an email with a list of everything. You can pay your bill at any time manually using your credit card on file or PayPal account.

The biggest problem with other auction sites is traffic, I would suppose.

The more people that look at your products and bid, the better prices you get.

Guess you are going to have to start promoting them

problem with ESTY an other sites like that.. alot of the stuff I buy I don't have a clue what actual value is on it... so let's say I put a shawnee puss n boots cookie jar up for 80.00 an it actually list for over 200.00 ..I just screwed myself

I would still use ebay closed auctions for determining what sells and for how much.

Build the cost into the item by using the start price and advertise Free Shipping.

I do that but sometimes items aren't on ebay or anywhere online.. I have a mickey mouse dinner set that is from mid 70's an still haven't found a price for it an that's been atleast 2 years ago
